Description Inspector Gadget! How many of you kids from the 80s and 90s remember Inspector Gadget? C'mon now! I know you're out there.

This show just happened to be one of mine and my brother's favorite things when we were young. We'd always pretend to be Penny and Brain, and we'd ask our mom or our dad (depending on who we were with) to play as Inspector Gadget. Our mom was always a really good sport about it and made the most hilarious Gadget, but our dad never wanted to partake in any of our games. ...so we ended up assigning him the role of Dr. Claw.
He also ended up being Eggman and Mojo jojo in our other games.

Anyhoo, enough reminiscing.

This picture popped into my head after we finished watching an old tape of Inspector Gadget episodes. I was cooking something and my brother looks over my shoulder and shines a flashlight on the food, talking in a Gadget voice and pretending to "inspect" what I was making. And this idea came to me.

I had a lot of fun drawing these characters in my own style. Brain was the biggest challenge, but I think he came out okay. ^^ (Besides, you can't have Penny without Brain, in my book.) I also had fun with the perspective on Gadget's extendo neck.

Well, that's all I have to say. Enjoy! I miss the 90's...

I wish my parents did that with me.

Instead my parents were too busy and my older sister pined me to the bed and said "You're acting like a crazy person. People are gonna put you away if you keep acting like this" when I was 5 and was pretending to be Gadget.

Wasn't the first time she ruined something in my childhood for my little sister and I. Wasn't the last either.

Ah yes, Inspector Gadjet. Didn't know the cartoon, hate live-action movie, but overall, likable characters. XD

Great job as always

lol! Well said. The live action movie isn't anything like the cartoon, really. Just out of curiosity, though, what is it that you don't like about the movie? Personally, I thought there was too much romance and not enough slapstick/goofy humor.

Thanks much!

What I don't like about the movie? The story was weak, the plot is so simple, it looks like a toothpick in comparison, the acting didn't help either, jokes weren't very clever and they kinda over-used the pop culture jokes here and there. Although I did chuckle at the Yahoo bill-board sign scene.

As you can tell, I'm kind of a snob movie critic. XD Although this guy reviewed it too. [link] But, well, he curses worse than a sailor xD

Ah, makes sense. Not to mention the fact that it's a medical nightmare! For some reason, ya just don't think about that in the cartoon, but in a live action movie it's a tad different.

lol! Sounds like you're as much of a movie snob as I am a book snob! I'm extremely picky about what I read.

So he's basically the angry video game nerd of movies, huh? XD

OHMIGOSH IT'S INSPECTOR GADGET! I feel like it's the 1990's all over again. Dear 90's and your cheesy but amazing cartoons, I miss you.
Funny thing is, my little brother started re-watching this old show a few months ago. I didn't spend too much time watching it with him, but that theme song sure does bring back some memories.
This picture... It's just so awesome! As usual, the attention to detail is fantastic! The perspective on the rooms and everything look wonderful! Although I think the coolest thing is the way you were able to get the illusion of depth just right with Gadget's mechanical neck connecting his head to his body in the other room. I love his expression too! You captured the essence of the show and the characters so well! Penny looks great and so does Brain! My friend, I do believe you've set me to "nostalgia mode" for the rest of the day. Excellent work!

YOU KNOW IT!! Ditto, my friend...ditto.

Seriously? That's awesome! Wait...is it on TV still!? Cause that would be amazing! I was just saying yesterday that they ought to have this on TV again. I've been looking up episodes on YouTube. They still make me laugh. ...and now I can't seem to get the theme song out of my head. XD

Thank you so much!! Glad to hear that I did well on the depth, I wanted that to really stand out in this picture. I thought his face would be harder to draw, but it was surprisingly easy! The hardest part was his eyes, but even that wasn't as hard as I expected.
ROFL! Welcome to the club. And thanks again!

Not that I know of. He was watching it on Netflix, it's available for streaming through our PS3 on there. I haven't had cable television in years, so I have hardly any idea what's on these days.

You're welcome! It does stand out too!

LOL! It's good to be a member of the club. And you're welcome again!

Ah, I had forgotten that you didn't have cable either. Man, we really need to get signed up with Netflix! The wii automatically updated itself and added an Netflix app, so all we have to do is connect to the internet and sign up.

lol! Am I the only one who feels just a bit old reminiscing like this?

You'll love it! We've had it so long that we sometimes feel like we're running out of shows to watch, (we've watched all of the episodes of our favorites ) but for the first while it's fantastic! The setup on the Wii is okay, but honestly I like the way that a PS3 displays the movies choices better. But if you don't have a choice, the Wii works well too!

Lol! No, you're not!

KittyCowLexa In reply to Lavender-Star [2012-05-26 14:42:12 +0000 UTC]

lol! No doubt we'll get to feeling like that after a while, but by then we'll just go back to watching our old tapes that are so old they're new.
Yeah, we don't have a PS3. Glad to hear that the wii setup works well too, though.

lol! The other day, my brother was talking about detention (at my school, the hand out detention and in school suspension like candy. ) and said that the detention kids get to go to lunch first. And I started saying that when I was in school the detention kids went LAST and had to hurry to eat their lunches. ...then I stopped and felt old because I just said "when I was in school" XD

Good plan. We do that sometimes, but now I think we've gone and watched almost all of those too!

LOL! I'm thinking I said something to that effect the other day, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Although for the past month I have been continually making jokes about "the youth these days" and "I'm an adult now, you know."

We just got Netflix last night! We haven't hooked up the wii to the internet yet, but we can watch movies on my mom's computer.

rofl! Same here! Though, I've only got less than a year to enjoy pretending that I'm SO much older than my brother now that I'm "an adult". Next year he'll be 18 too.
Geez, if we're feeling all nostalgic like this NOW, imagine how we'll feel when we're REALLY old!

Awesome! I'm sure you guys are going to love it!

I've still got nearly three years until Devin turns 18, so I get to bask in my "I'm an adult" glory for a good while longer.
I was wondering the same thing!

this was one of my favorite shows growing up. I wish time was still like the 80's and the 90's things where much better back then. my sibling and I would go around going go go gadget and come up with some random thing that we where pretending we where useing. I have an older sister and had a younger brother who had passed away in april this year. He died of cancer. His birthday would be comeing up soon in june that going to be dificult for all of us.

I was really young in the nineties, but I have heard of it before. People were probably not as judegmental and money-obsessed back then...

Anyhoo, the detail in this is great! I tell you, I can never draw dogs that well. The whole thing is just awesome!

Not really, but they WERE a bit more concerned with ethics and morals. I'm not saying there wasn't any junk on TV, but kids cartoons were generally less trashy.

Thank you muchly! lol! I usually can't either. Thanks again!

Yeah, it's no wonder kids grow up so immature these days. You also get far more graphic films too and I mean the ones that are rated, like, twelve. (in my opinion)

You're welcome! I never know where to start with them.

KittyCowLexa In reply to Cerulean-Star75 [2012-05-25 14:37:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I see what you mean. Swearing is also a big problem. Actually, I remember when I was in preschool, we watched the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie and it had the word "damn" in it I think once. Well, I picked that up and said it one time (not knowing that it was a bad word!) and got in HUGE trouble. Talk about being careless with young minds!

That's part of my problem, too. XD I usually try to start by drawing two light circles, one for the head and one for the snout. then I just kinda draw the face around that. Hope that made sense...

Cerulean-Star75 In reply to KittyCowLexa [2012-05-25 14:47:23 +0000 UTC]

Eek, I've been there; it's not fun. Seriously, people around where I live seem to find it impossible to say a sentence without swearing at least once. Some video games seem to be pretty bad for it too.

I try to start out with a circle for the head and work out what to do for the snout, and then mess up in some way. XD

KittyCowLexa In reply to Cerulean-Star75 [2012-05-26 14:54:27 +0000 UTC]

Really? Ouch. There are some people around here like that, but they're mostly either highschoolers that think it sounds cool, or trashy adults. But I live in what could sort of be considered the country; I hear it's pretty bad in the cities. Still, I've noticed that it's those who speak with class who get the most positive attention/respect, so there's hope for humanity yet.

lol! Yeah, usually it's good to start out with a couple circles to give you an idea of perspective.

Cerulean-Star75 In reply to KittyCowLexa [2012-05-26 15:06:59 +0000 UTC]

It's mainly highschoolers and trashy adults that say stuff like that around here too, but it seems like everywhere you go, people are swearing. Lol, there's hardly anyone around here like that, unless you count the grandparents and kids (sometimes), they're usually pretty good.

Yep.

Sad, isn't it? All the cussing in kids movies these days doesn't help either.
Well, then we ought to start setting an example for our own age groups, eh? I believe that it makes an impression on people when we just hold strong to what God expects from us, no matter what everyone else is doing.

Cerulean-Star75 In reply to KittyCowLexa [2012-06-01 18:22:39 +0000 UTC]

Yep. No, it's just making it worse, really.

Yep, I'm probably pretty different from the norm of what my age group's like, that's for sure. At least I know I'm setting a good example of how people should behave, though.
