Description
My entry forΒ Contest 54 - Coloring Book Challenge .I used two images to get the basic lineart: Mickey and Minnie on a Vespa scooter
while the background is taken from this Bolt picture
The main subject reminded me dynamism, speed and urbanism, some of the key features in Futurism movement.
So I tried to model the background after Luigi Russolo's "Dynamism of a car "
+ Russolo (Futurism)

whoa, it's so chaotic looking (kind'a makes me want to squint to get the lines together :P). Looks like you colored/shaded it nice, and it does kind'a look like movement, like the wayΒ photos turn out when takenΒ at dusk.
It's neat.

Thank you! I should have added a warning sign
Indeed , I spent a lot of time looking at Russolo's picture to understand the stages, so that I could get a similar effect through the coloring process.

I love the effect that you have going on here! Its like they're moving at hyper speed! Very effective. Nice work

Thank you!! I was thinking of the vespa's engine sounds and some background music while doing the coloring, and it helped a lot

Woah, I can't even comprehend how you made the image look like it's moving. And the pencil sketching for the shading is super effective.

Thank you!! I think the arrow lines (from the original picture) and the cloned ghost images of the subject teamed up well to carry it out.

Thank you!! I was doubtful whether to use it or not, but in the end it seemed an essential part of the picture.

Beautifully done!! I can't believe this was traditionally done
Colors and shading technique are wonderful! The effect where it looks like the scooter is speeding ahead is well done as well.
Good luck on the contest

Thank you!! I like the traditional medium because it usually feels "warmer" than the digital tools (although the latter provide a better control on the actions).

What an awesome inspiration piece! Β First of all you did a wonderful job using traditional media to color it and I'd say you totally captured the feel of your futuristic reference pic! Β

Thank you!! The reference picture was so fascinating with its features, that it was a lot of fun to use as a reference in the coloring process!

I have no idea how you did this and I'm so confused about it but that's what makes it amazing . I love the colors, and I really like how it looks like they're moving too. This must've been a lot of work! Nice job!

Thank you! I often get confused while watching some paintings which have multiple perspectives or frames overlapping, so I tried myself to use the effect and mimic the (vehicle) motion sequence with the zoomed image of the characters; the buildings in the background were duplicated and slightly bended towards the focal point.

No problem! I suppose the confusion is part of what makes these style of paintings so fun!
This must've had a lot of layers to it, but now I understand how you did it, how cool!

Oooh, this makes me a bit dizzy, but the effects are really stunning. Β Another great traditional piece and a very interesting style of patterns as well for the background. Β

I think it's like when you are on a car and you watch outside of the window (the background almost transforms into lines according to speed); plus the "persistence of vision" effect confuses the brain on what subject it should focus on.

Something about his picture reminds me of the poster for Logans Run (s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/o⦠) I don't know what it is. mybe it all the vibrant colors right next to each other. Great Work.

I like the idea of rainbow background for Mickey and Mickey, they also made our lives colored with each cartoon.
Like the artist's style of art suggests, the image is in motion. You managed to capture his art style.Well done!~^^

Thank you! It was hard to find a suitable background where the lines hinted the motion effect. Then I added in shades of complementary colours, blue and orange (trying to make it vivid and lively like the characters), plus the outline like a ghost image as they progress along the way.

Oooo.... oh, this is so beautiful! The inspirations you used really help make this piece stand out as an illustration that has a hopeful future tinge to it! I love how even though we don't see Mickey and Minnie's faces, we don't need to see them in order to know who they are. But we are curious as to where they're going on their scooter; what will the future hold for them as they ride off into the unknown? Using the Futurism movement is a splendid idea and it really helps the viewer feel like they themselves are moving towards a new place where beauty and hope are to be found. The bright walls and lights remind me of a speedway, like a race car or even an airplane, and just as optimistic as they are, the lights are showcasing their enthusiasm towards that dynamic unknown. Well done on making a fine piece!
