oh wow look its that one violent tormentor dude that eats chalk and faces
Ok ok real talk though I'm freaking just... amazed and baffled that Deltarune just like- exists.
I have to say though, my favorite character is Ralsei, but my second favorite character (and favorite character design overall in the Deltarune exclusive roster) is Susie for sure.
(undyne and alphys is still my favorites from undertale- but dang i'm as upsetti as a spaghetti that they don't know each other. but i'm not so downtrodden as i could be because:
a. this is just a chance to see alphys and undyne fall in love with each other for the first time
b. my third favorite character, Noelle, is a big gay and Susie is literally her love interest so AAAHHHHHH-)
Though I can't take her as seriously as I did when I first saw her scary face, mainly because I can only think about her screaming at Alphys that one scene of Sharkboy and Lavagirl:
Kris: * You told the teacher that Susie ate the chalk.
Susie: i DID NOT
Susie: SEND THEM TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE AND HAVE THEM E X P eL L ED

That would be a plus, but that depends on it turning out that this is all a Flashback. Until more chapters come out, we won't know what's going on. Personally, I question if it's even really them, or if this world is an illusion.
This is a great picture of Susie, though. I liked her character arc.
I literally just worked out that "Ralsei" is an anagram of "Asriel".

Its also possible that its a whole different universe all together (since too many details in Deltarune seem to contradict the flashback theory- like Gerson being dead in Deltarune but in Undertale he's alive. So that doesn't seem to work in favor of Deltarune being a prequel)
I think its still a possibility for these two characters to fall in love in a different universe, its just not the same Undyne and Alphys from Undertale. Based on the interactions with them in Deltarune though, they aren't extremely different from their UT counterparts besides different occupations (a police officer and a teacher) and tastes in media (alphys's main interest is western cartoons, but she's giving anime a try when we meet her in DR and she seems to enjoy it- even if its the dreaded Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2....). Undyne is still the tough rootin'-tootin' fish we know and love, and Alphys is still the lovable nerd (whom we also know and love). And if those traits got them to fall in love in UT, I wouldn't doubt that they might fall in love in DR.
Or not. Nobody really knows.
