Twilight Velvet and Night Light Sparkle, the parents of Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor..

They met in his teenage years and quickly became a couple, Velvet was from a rich family of pureblood unicorns and Night Light was from a common one, he wasn't a pure unicorn and had ancestry of bat ponies.
In Velvet's family, had always the tradition of choosing the future wife/husband of his children ever since they are born, and Velvet was already engaged whit somepony, and she didn't care because she was planing on running away when that day comes.
Night Light and Velvet had the dream of running away and live the life they always wanted, and it came true! But not in the way they were planing.. Velvet discovered that she was pregnant, and told Night Light not so long after. Night Light didn't feel ready to be a dad but he wasn't going to abandone his child and girlfriend, so he proposed to Velvet and married her in secret, also, he offered to her runing away to Canterlot because he could have a job as a guard and mantain them whit it. Velvet was depressed at the time because she thought his dreams where never going to come true know that she was pregnant but thanks to Night Light she didn't feel that bad anymore. Later she gave birth to Shining Armor and tried what she could to be a good mother. Four years later she had Twilight, and they where a "happy" family.

Night Light and Velvet raised his children whit everything they could give them, but never really got to know them deeply. Velvet wasn't at home often and didn't watch the kids alot, while Night Light was working in the royal guards all the weekend. So Shining had to take care of Twilight all the time, he hated her for most part of his childhood because he couldn't have a normal day playing whit his friends or doing homework from school. But whit the time he stops blaming her and actually feels love for her, but starts blaming his parents for not taking care of them. Velvet just thought it was his puberty and change of emotions that makes him like that in those times, while Night Light never really got to know about his son hate towards them?? He was too busy.

Shining didn't want to be like them, and he made the promise to himself that he would never do that to his family when he grows up. -It's sad that he is actually worse than his parent's, isn't it?-
He was very open minded in his teenage years whit Cadence, but it changes quickly when Velvet had the talk whit him of what is right and wrong in his perspective.
Velvet had a very different perspective from Cadence on what was natural and what not in love, like a mare can't love another mare because they are of the same gender and that's not natural, same whit colts, and etc. Shining taked his mother's words too seriously since it was one of the few times she ever talked something *ahem* "important" to him.
He later marries Cadence, and has Flurry Heart, two years later Elenor comes to their lives, and everything changes for bad.

While Twilight grew up too stressed because she wanted to make proud his parents (and attention), she studied in a big part of his childhood but never really got to have real friends in that time, she had a lack socializing whit others fillies thanks to all the expectations his parent's where having towards her. She didn't consider Moondancer as a friend actually, she just liked her around, nothing else. But later changes in his adulthood of course, and you know the rest of the story later.

• Velvet and Night Light didn't came to his daughter wedding whit Fluttershy because they don't accept that Twilight married a girl. But it changed drastically when Twilight had his first child, Petunia. They though about his daughter relationship for a bit, and realized that they wanted to be there for her, and that it wasn't bad to love someone, no matter the gender.
Twilight welcomes them to the family, but she dosen't talk whit them that much anymore. Still, Petunia and the other's loves them alot, and don't know about the bad backstory of their grandparents.

• Velvet and Night Light haven't talked to Shining Armor ever since he came from war. Shining had a horrible argument whit them and specially a fight whit his dad. The two never saw as much like before their grandchildren anymore ever since that, they love Flurry and the other's but they keep distance.

• Velvet dosen't like Elenor at all, and it kind of hurts her because she IS his grandchild, but for her, Elenor is the reason for why his son has become like this, or at least a portion of it.
But she doesn't want to admit that he has become like that, maybe because of her fault for not begin there enough time. Same whit Night Light.

• Night Light didn't entirely want to be a dad, he never saw himself whit children, and when he had Shining and Twilight he taked extra hours on his job as a guard on purpose. He loves them, but he just didn't have enough patience. still, he knows that it was wrong to have escaped from his parenting for many times, but will never admit that.
