Acrylics and mediums on acrylic paper, 9"x12"Fullview recommended
I've been suffering from a bad art block for the past weeks. Then, a little over a week ago, I went out to see a couple of bands and found surprising inspiration. One of the bands was my husband's band, Slutna, the other one was called Thy Agony, and they played melodic metal. I'd never heard them play before, but found their music pretty good and all of a sudden I got a mental image of this painting. I scribbled down some notes in my notebook, and made a quick sketch for later. I think the song they were playing at the moment had something to do with wanting to die, and that's what struck me. I know it's a dark theme but sometimes we need to walk down these dark paths, as well. The process of painting this was very therapeutic for me.

i'm really glad your block is lifting! you know i understand all that you're talking about and although it's a dark theme, something about the painting looks hopeful or at least vital and alive. not to mention that it is beautiful! i know i owe you mail! i've only just started being productive again. we're still screwing around with my meds but my mood is improving and i don't spend every moment of the day in bed, (just most of them, lol!). i'm so sorry to hear that you're having a tough time, but this makes me think you're doing ok, on some level. the tendrils look almost phosphorescent. did you use metallic paint or an opalescent medium? it's an awesome effect!

I created the tendrils with clear tar gel mixed with paint, and later when the painting was dry, I applied a very thin layer of soft gloss gel over the whole painting. I guess that creates the effect. Hmm, maybe I should get some opalescent medium, or paint, that could really come in handy in the sort of stuff I'm planning to do in the near future. I really love the colours in this painting, and I like your interpretation of it - that there's something alive in there, some hope. I think it means I'm surviving, getting by, slowly, yeah, but it's happening. Step by step.

Jäin tuijottamaan tätä varmaan viideksi minuutiksi ku näin tän mun watchissa, se on tosi hypnoottinen. Tykkään jostain syystä erityisen paljon siitä miten tää on aseteltu, ja lienee sanomattakin selvä että rakastan noita värejä. Mulle tulee tästä mieleen joku Azatothin tapanen kaoottinen avaruusmassa, tai ehkä joku galaksin tai mustan aukon tapanen juttu.
