Description
PHASE 1: CORDYSEED
For years, Cordyseed had gone unnoticed by anyone and everyone that passed by. People had at first thought it was a regular fungus, clinging to the sides of trees and blending in with the plant-life of the forest floor. However, further study has shown this creature to be very much a pokemon. And quite a dangerous one at that.
In recent years, the Cordyseed population has spiked unexpectedly. Reports of entire sections of forest area being covered in them have practically flooded the news. The spores they release into the air normally so little that only a few small plants and pokemon get effected. The massive numbers though have changed this, suffocating the air to the point such places have been quarantined. Pokemon scientists and breeders alike are still trying to solve the problem to this day.
However, this is sadly not the biggest issue the pokemon has caused.
PHASE 2: CORDURANT
Researchers have found something considerably disturbing when looking further into the nature of Cordyseed. When coming into contact with a Durant, it acts like a parasite. Latching on and fusing with its body, forcing the two to evolve together into something researchers have coined a Cordurant.
This malformed creature has forced the former Durant to lose its steel-typing. Not only that, but it also moves as if in a hypnotic daze and will show aggression towards anything that is neither a Cordyseed or fellow Cordurant. It protects its territory fiercely, living in colonies which take over the forest itself. Most interesting is how these places where their colonies lay are not only quarantined but are also where former Durant colonies used to be.
All hope is not lost though. Cordurant can still be reverted back to its original state with the help of an onslaught of highly powerful psychic blasts. This will weaken the Cordyseed half to the point of separating just to escape. Be sure to catch it once it's off though. Otherwise, it will simply find a new host nearby.
PHASE 3: CORDUROYAL
By this point, this no longer any chance of saving the former Durant.
Corduroyal is the sign of a Cordurant colony having become officially established. It acts like that of a "queen," controlling all the Cordurant under its rule. Once having reached this stage of evolution, the pokemon proceed to build up the colonies numbers by laying as many Cordyseed eggs as possible.
Normally, this would not be an issue. However, more Corduroyals and their colonies have been popping up everywhere, becoming in turn detrimental to the Durant population and other forest-residing pokemon. Even more concerning, they're breeding faster than anyone can keep up to stop it. And no one knows why. Several theories have been made, but one currently stands out amonst the rest:
Is it possible this pokemon's natural predator has died out? Maybe.
But then, what was it...?
