476 passengers (including 325 students) board 'the Saewol' ferry bound for Jeju-island at 7:00 a.m. However, when captain turned the ship, the ferry became to lean, and became unable to control. The captain just said to passengers "It will be fine, just wait." and without any sos call or evacuation measures for passengers, all sailors, incuding captain, left the ship.
2 hours later when passengers noticed that sailors were gone and the ferry is sinking, they called the sos lately and tried to escape from the ship. But the ferry was leaned so hard that they couldn't escape. After the rescue workers arrived they quickly started to pick up the passengers, but it was too late.
Only 97 passengers and 75 students were rescued. Rest of 295 passengers(including 248 students) died.
This tragedy is the worst incident that shows danger of safety insensitivity in Korea so far.
