Depression or major depressive disorder is a medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, think and act.
Depression causes feelings of sadness and on occasions a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can also lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work, school or home.
Depression can lead to low self-esteem, changes in appetite (weight loss or gain), trouble sleeping or spleeping too much, loss of energy, difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions and thoughts of death or suicide.
Depression affects an estimated one in 15 adults in any given year. And one in six people will experience depression at some time in their life. Depression, on average, first appears during the late teens to mid-20s and is more likely to affect women than men. Some studies show that one-third of women will experience a major depressive episode in their lifetime.
Teenagers are the most likely to be affected by depression due to the stress of body changes, as well as increased independence and changes in their relationships.
Depression may be a reaction to environmental stresses, like verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, the death of a loved one, school problems, or being the victim of bullying.
Gay, bisexual, and transgender teens are at higher risk for depression, thought to be because of the bullying by peers and potential rejection by family members.
Depression is among the most treatable of mental disorders. Between 80 percent and 90 percent of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment and almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms.

Being a person, who not only has major depression and being one who helps others with the same, I am left wondering if YOU know what it means.

Of course I know what it means, I named this painting "contagion" with reference to depression, which I personally consider a contagious disease...

This painting is titled in this way, because it speaks above all of depression, a disease that I think is contagious, it also speaks also of self-injury, a problem I personally have had for so many years, so in a sense it speaks about me... the idea came precisely thinking of my problems, but also all the other works in my gallery, refer about the various disorders that, unfortunately, I have...

Can I ask you, how long do all of these take to make? You seem to put one out every few days, so is it really that quick for you?

Yes, when I'm fine I can make one a day, because in the end they are not very large paintings

That's such a powerful piece of art you created. As a victim to self-harm, depression and anxiety myself, as well as a part of the Lgbtq community, this really speaks to me, but not in a negative way. It just brings up a lot of emotions. Thanks for this wonderful piece!
I also love that last paragraph you included in your description about the treatment success of depression. It's just a little thing, but it means a lot to me.

You know, on the one hand I'm relieved that I am not the only one with those problems, but on the other hand, I wish you didn't have to feel this way. Please stay strong!

Wow you're really exploring deep and hard subjects these days.
Stupid question from me : do you know the animation film Colorful from Keiichi Hara ? Your work reminds me the main theme of this movie .
