I've only started to do it recently, (trans 2007 really sucked me in) and I still havent quite figured it out.

Organic creature weirdness I can nearly do blind, but anything mechanical I have too still keep looking up refferences and make 20 mistakes before anything good comes out.

But I'm learning

Just the result of doing it a lot, you sort of get the feel for the "rules?" "anatomy?" of mechanical beings after a while. My first ones were absolute crap.
