Even if i didn't like Flash I'd still be mature and see how the rest of the episode played out, and besides pausing at the scene with Flash to cheer at the top of my lungs, I would've still enjoyed the episode with all of Discord's antics and his song, and the moments with Twilight and Cadence. I've given up hope on some of even the more intellectual bronies because of how they reacted to him.

I don't get what the problem is.
I loved the episode not because flash sentry was just in because it was enjoyable.

There's a reason why I absolutely despise the Shining Armor x Cadence backstory in the IDW Comics--cute as it may be.

I'm pretty sure the hate behind Flash Sentry is because of how a flat a character he is. Compared to the rest of the MLP characters, Flash is a boring character to many who is just a cliche romantic interest.
I didn't find anything wrong with him personally and wouldn't mind them hooking up whether he's an human or pony, provided they flesh him out

Sums up the reaction of bronies who secretly made their-OCxTwilight romance fanfiction, yes.
To hate a pony this much, a pony that got a decent character (better than Shining Armor imo) and just not really important side role... it makes sense only if there is this voice inside saying "THIS guy for (my) Twilight? My oc/I would do better! HATE HATE HATE." Another reason to be disappointed with bronies, I thought this was common for girls (I had my times as well).

Alright, I am not trying to be confrontational, but you saying that he has a better character than Shining Armor kind of throws me for a loop, as personally I see Shining Armor as being a better character than him, I was just wondering if you could explain why you think Flash Sentry is a better character than Shining Armor?
My reasons for thinking Shining Armor has a better character is becuase he has been in the show many more times. Β He has been shown to be a good and loving brother to Twilight Sparkle, although how good of a husband he is has yet to be shown. Β He has a decent grasp of reality, and according to the comics (which I am pretty sure is canon, although admittedly I don't actually know if they are or not) he was a pretty big nerd in school, which I can very much relate to.

You see - I somehow see Shining as an accessory created for Cadance. When it comes to his presence, he always seems... side character, not really useful. For the space he got in the show he didn't impress me. The comics was better, though.
Flash on the other hand seems like a nice addition - Twilight could get a way worse guy to have crush on. This one is nice and this feeling multiplies when he's in a pony form. And for the brief time he received he never felt like a forced-to-be-there character. Even during the film he was introduced long before he started to be somehow important unlike Shining.
I don't think Shining should win just because he got more time - that doesn't make the judgement conditions equal. If Flash got more screen time as a very loyal guard of Cadance occassionaly meeting Twilight (I don't mean dates, just seeing her when she meets Cadance etc.), maybe even talking or cooperating in some epic duo episode, he would do well, I'm certain.
But look at this hatred raised against him. I doubt they would have the courage to put him there for longer than a short glimpse. u__u Which is sad, imo.
Btw, this all doesn't mean I hate Shining or so.
