There are several light sources at multiple angles and depths lighting this figure, one happens to be just below and behind the head to his right as a rim light that is intended to bring out the SS of the ear...it is intended to give balance to the image. I was hoping to balance the light on the right with the SS through the ear.

Ah ok. Maybe because it's very focused to the ear that I thought it odd. But even when I cover the ear, the picture is very strong. Still, I can see the decision, composition-wise.
