My artwork for the collective artbook Coloraptus ! My colour, would you have guessed, was red. Despite being quite seasonal, this was actually drawn last summerβ¦!
There might be a few copies of the artbook still available, please check the link above for details - all proceedings go to charity.
[EDIT 23.01.2015] ZOMG, thank you so much STelari for the DD!

I like the contrast between red and white, it looks really intense.

I pay special attention to this work because the costume has many features of a modern Vietnamese traditional wedding dress. Then I following your trace to your bio and both surprised and interested to know that you're not even Asian. I wonder what inspired you to let the lady in the painting wear that dress? this question is purely about inspiration and motivation.

As others have mentionned, this was actually not inspired by Vietnamese costumes but by traditional Eastern European and Russian costumes. The charity artbook was planned in such a way that each artist was given a colour to work with, and I got red. Red is a traditional colour for women's folk gear there, hence the inspiration. It was usual in the 19th century for the royal and noble families of these areas to wear modernized, ornate costumes inspired by traditional costumes for special occasions such as weddings, so I worked from there using old photographs and documentation from traditional costume museums.
I was not aware that Vietnamese wedding dresses actually looked quite close to this as well! Interesting how that happens.

That would imply that people of a certain decent can't be inspired by other cultures because they are not of that culture. You know what we call that these days? Racism. "You can't do that because you're not of that race." Yep, that's racism. Congrats.
Also, you should probably learn more about your heritage before you claim that other people are stealing it for art.
The clothing you're wearing is clearly of Western style, but when I looked at your profile, I was both surprised and interested to know that you're not even White. I wonder what inspired you to let yourself wear clothing made for white people?
See how ridiculous it sounds when the tables are turned? Maybe you should stop reading crap on Tumblr and realize art is open to everyone, and all styles are available to use for everyone, not one culture or another. This is 2015, we're trying to eliminate racism, not propagate it.

The dress is inspired by Eastern Europe costumes, as you can see by the tags. And why should a person be of a certain cultural heritage to feel inspired by it?
