Have you ever wondered how falling stars are born?
Well, now you know.
I've tried to make something more dynamic, less static. A girl walking through the clouds and cutting off stars on her way, with a whole damn lot of wind.
I've also tried to work with colours I rarely use, blues. And tried to darken my shades, but it's hard - I'm starting to believe it's my watercolour that isn't pigmented enough. I'll buy a few new colours and see whether it's a problem with me or my paint.
Anyway, I must say I like this one enormously for some reason. She seems so happy. I've wanted to draw this picture for a long while, and it came out differently from what I expected, but in a good way for once.
The body is extremely elongated and exagerratedly slim on purpose. I like drawing those bodies.
The pose does look quite stiif and unnatural... but hey, so would you if you were walking on those things.
I hope you will like it.
[Made with Staedtler pigment liners, watercolours, liquid frisket, Tria markers, colour pencils, white paint.]

So that's how they are made...
It came out really well. The dynamics are definitely more active with the wind, but I still like that her body is very slender and almost stick like. It gives it a bit of rigidity, but not in a bad way. I think together the wind and body compliment each other.

When I look at her she seems sad to me. >>;; As if she's apologizing to the star she's about to destory.
I don't know, but her expression just looks that way to me...
Anyway, it's really lovely. ~

Just a little tidbit on watercolors-- they're not meant to be super-saturated strong colors. If you want that, go for acrylics, which you can use like watercolor, too. That way you can get both strong, saturated color and soft color.

Glad to help! It's just something I learned from years of playing around with different paint. I used to do mostly watercolors, and I ran into the same problem you did. When I realized I could get two different effects from the acrylics, I switched.
White acrylic is also great for doing highlights in any medium, and it shows up a lot better than white gel pens (which a lot of people seem to use).
You will also probably need to get some synthetic sable brushes for working with thicker paint, the brush needs more spring to it than the natural hair provides.

The detail work you did on the skirt and sky are both subtle and stunning (my, that's a lot of "s"'s). I also love how pallid and gothic her face looks compared to the brightness of her surroundings.

hm... I think the thick border, the very centered placing of the figure and the lack of diagonal lines and slopes in the background take out a lot of the dynamics. verticals + horizontals = stability
but it's a nice picture ^^
