I think I was far from the only one that got exposed to Happy Tree Friends when they were FAR too young to handle it. YouTube when I was coming out of elementary school was a bit of an unregulated mess so you could easily stumble across something you shouldn’t be looking at.
Can’t say I’m too fond of the series itself, both now and during its heyday, but I can at least respect it for what it was trying to do. It did a really great job copying the aesthetic of preschool animation. I only wish it did a little more than just bank on averted expectations and shock value.
