Hmm- I can't help but feel suspicious of the true nature of their relationship... Is Tryston mind controlling/manipulating Asriel? Tryston's eyes are glowing intensely in the first panel and his expression seems much more sinister than loving <-<;;

Tryston is kind of a complicated character. He is very possessive (however Asriel adores that) and he does love Asriel, though he has trouble expressing that emotionally. Tryston can be very manipulative and he doesn't need magic to be successful (He is a King afterall, and a mediator to keep the peace between the kings and queens of the Council of Powers [I think that's what I called it] so he would need quite the silver tongue).
My thoughts on this piece was that Tryston and his possessive side were utterly pleased to have a mark on Asriel, indicating that he is Tryston's and no one else's. I wanted Trys to have that glow in his eyes, as if he IS controlling Asriel, however, in the second panel, I purposely had Asriel's eyes glow pink, rather than that bright blue, and say "Wasn't I always yours?" Meaning that Asriel was already in love and devoted to his King.

Someone enjoying having another being possessive over them is a quality I find difficult to comprehend... These two are complexing... hmm...
I knew their eye colour was significant, I picked up on that detail & its meaning.
Separate question: Is it tradition for King & Ward to be lovers? Regardless of that answer, does the public know that Asriel & Tryston are lovers?

No, it isn't a tradition, but it could have very well happened before, seeing as how the Ward is the king's constant companion. And eventually, yes, their relationship will be painfully obvious and not only that, they get engaged after a few years, once Tryston is more expressive about his feelings emotionally with Asriel.
