Description
I have been trying to improve at using the Reality plugin for DAZ Studio and rendering scenes in LuxRender. Here is a scene I just completed. I found the crystal ball object at ShareCG. It was created by LuxXeon, who is an amazing modeler. I'm sure other people are using this item in their renders as well. Here is the link to it: www.sharecg.com/v/77869…Related content

It is a very cool object and I love the soft reflection

Well done! Thank you for the mention, and excellent work on the metallic material.

Thank you! I like the metal base as well. Hopefully with more practice I will get the glass ball to improve.

I used to use Luxrender through Daz Studio and Poser. I remember that Reality plugin, but I never used it. I was using a free plugin for Poser to transport the scenes, and I would first export the Genesis characters from DS to Poser, then over to Luxrender. Anyway, I know the Reality plugin from friends who were using it, and I think it had a preset glass shader you could use. Unless you're using some other plugin to bring the scenes into Luxrender? Still, check to see if they have any preset materials, as most have them. Glass would be a standard one I think. Once you have a standard glass shader, Luxrender is amazing at rendering glass with great refractions and reflections. You already got the metal down perfectly!

Thank you!!
The Reality plugin does have presets for glass but I think I just need more practice with the settings.

Bonjour! I see your render very well. I like how you have chosen to render this in simple, but interesting scene. I also used the model in a render here: iamzandar.deviantart.com/art/I…
I would like to know your opinion. I think you do a very good job here. I would just say that the ball could appear more real life if using a glass material with refraction? Bon travail, mon ami.

Absolutely beautiful. How long did you let it render in Lux? I'm impatient. I don't like waiting hours for a render to complete. Just saying. Otherwise, Lux does a wonderful job.

Thank you, my friend! I let this render about 2.5 hours, I think. I get impatient some times too so I do most of my Lux renders when I'm sleeping or watching tv. lol

Nice first try. I would suggest you try using the Cauchy glass setting and increasing the refractive index. It looks like the crystal is set to a RI of close to 1 i.e. the same as the air which is why there is no refraction of the image behind the ball. Try an index of around 1.45. The cauchy setting will give you a colour dispersion which will add to the realism but will increase the render times.

Thank you so much!! I'm still trying to get the hang of rendering glass. In my next glass render, I will use your suggestion. Thanks again!
