This is really incredible, I was really looking forward to seeing how you'd present Onyx Island from your Angel Island piece. This is extremely well thought out, and the additions added to the island work well with the established setting of the future. Really look forward to see how you utilize these locations! It's laying dormant in the Hidden Palace... it's turned dark and glossy like the emeralds in unleashed, so they call it the Ancient Onyx.

When the last Guardian died it went dormant.

So, what about the chaos emeralds. since they are connected to the master emerald, are they dormant too? And what about Tikal and Chaos who are pretty much apart of the master emerald?

The chaos emeralds are either dormant or in hiding again; because Silver had to be told what a chaos emerald was and Nega never seems to seek them (like he sooner crosses dimensional barriers to get the sol emeralds when his dimension has a perfectly good set of magic rocks just laying around), I assume they aren't common knowledge at all.
I like to think there are seven "true" chaos emeralds, like the original and most powerful ones, and then tons of other, inferior chaos emeralds of varying types, so the true ones are dormant and the others are scattered around, being ignored.
They're all still emitting chaos energy just fine, they just can't be used since they're dormant/everyone's forgotten about them.
Tikal and Chaos are basically asleep and will remain so until someone is chosen by the ME to take up the mantle of guardian, whereupon it will reactivate. Or something like that, lol.

Alright, I can except those answers.
But I kind of wish I knew why a guardian must be chosen in order for the master emerald to be usable and what the qualifications are. I assume you don't have to be an echidna, because I think it is implied that the Master Emerald has been around long before the echidnas. The Knuckles Tribe didn't really seem to have a guardian either, unless you wanna say that they jointly as a tribe guarded it. Or is it because of the Chaos incident that lead to the master emerald having a guardian as to prevent any water monster rampage and the dormant thing is a fail-safe if the emerald no longer has a guardian?

Well... maybe it's more like the emerald will only willingly respond to certain people (and these are what we'd call guardians). It doesn't necessarily NEED a guardian, but it responds only to people it likes or whatever. The original guardian was Chaos I believe, until he smashed the echidna civilization and got sealed inside the emerald. After that, I think the echidna survivors took up the mantle of guardian so this wouldn't happen again. It would seem logical to me that if the emerald wants to cooperate with you, the result is much much more effective than if you have to force the emerald to do things artificially.
For my purposes, the emerald went dormant because Chaos got mad. The ME probably has its own weird consciousness, but I'm kinda thinking it's more the spirits of Tikal and Chaos united with the emerald's power providing the consciousness-- or whatever it is that Knuckles addresses when he asks the ME to do things. Chaos is very severe and stern with a soft heart, Tikal is basically a total sap, the emerald itself likely has some kind of strange primordial emerald mind as well, together this tribunal is what determines what the master emerald ultimately does.
So if this is the case, then maybe ever since the Chaos incident Tikal has been basically placating Chaos, so the few remaining echidnas (they're mentioned on the wiki) guard the emerald and can only appeal to its arcane raw emerald spirit since tikal and chaos are otherwise occupied. So the island's movements were generally erratic and random and served only to keep the island isolated from the rest of the world. However once sonic adventure happens tikal and chaos have become at peace so they can also influence the emerald's power, making it easier for the guardian to control since he has two slightly more relatable spirits to ask things of instead of just a mystical magic rock brain. So he can like steer and park the island and stuff instead of just riding it around helplessly, and then I think also manipulate the ME's size or carry it like the others carry chaos emeralds, letting him go on adventures with Sonic. I feel like he's carrying the ME around, not just leaving it on the island, otherwise it woulda been stolen by now.
Anyway, when the last guardian dies, the emeralds are exposed and unprotected, so unscrupulous and greedy third parties immediately swoop down to angel island so they can claim the emeralds for their own; they battle it out, and just like the altar rampage thousands of years ago, Chaos is enraged at their greed. But Tikal is there as well and exerting her influence this time. So instead of obliterating everyone he shuts the emeralds off so NOBODY can use them!! So until a person worthy of their power arrives, the emeralds become unusable.
Does that make any sense? lol

The presence of seedriansand the little planet are completely made up, and the zone locations are conjecture as well, but the zone names aren't (except for mirror lake and the mushroom kingdom thing)
I don't think it's explicitly stated that crystal mountain = icecap etc., but it seems logical doesn't it?
