1st Cosmo Navy:
The first Cosmo Navy fleet was cobbled together in 2077 after the final battle against the Solar Empire at Mars. It was comprised of both non-FTL capable ships of the EFSM 3rd Space Navy (Warspite [3], Alaska [5], and Nevada [6] classes), and captured Solar Empire FTL-capable ships (Michael Romanov [4], Pan [7], and Narvi [8] classes). The rag-tag fleet of mismatched spacecraft-- that the Jovian Defense Forces 1st Cosmo Navy was forced to use during the turbulent period of the 1st Interplanetary War that came after the demise of the Solar Empire--saw its first action in March of 2077 at the Vesta Atlas Gap corridor through the dense inner asteroid belt (made so by the addition of considerable kuiper material that had been towed between mars and jupiter for mining solar empire). The conclusion of the Battle of Vesta exposed the weakness of the 1st Cosmo Navy of the Jovian Defense forces leading the fledgling government to invest their resources into refitting their fleet, hence the creation of the 2nd Cosmo Navy.
2nd Cosmo Navy:
After the miserable events of the Vesta Atlas gap in 2077, the Jovian Defense Forces went into overdrive at their Saturn base in orbit over Titan (Nowhere space station). An immediate upgrade plan was put into action that called for the refit of all three classes of assault ships used by the JDF. The Saturn fleet would be refit first since it was further from the Inner Sphere of Sol and required a longer period of time to respond using plasma drives alone. However, the time needed for development of proper FTL engines (Stellar Warp Drives instead of Intersection Drives), and the refit of the existing space-frames of the 1st Cosmo Navy meant a minimum of 18 months, pushing the operational readiness of the first few battlegroups and fleets of the 2nd Cosmo Navy into February of 2079. When the Earth Federal Republic's 4th Space Navy--under the command of Admiral Bosch--made their attempt to take control of the Jupiter Colonies in November of 2077 and engaged the 4th Cosmo Navy of the Jupiter fleet of the Jovian Defense Forces, it became clear to the now ex-Earth Federal Space Marine fleets that the 2nd Cosmo Navy was only a stop-gap. Even with FTL ability the 2nd Cosmo Navy would not be enough to contend with the newer ships of the EFSN should they begin mass production of the Kurita class of space battleship. The loss of the Posse Comitatus was also a major blow to the JDF fleet and the reliance on that ship by the EFSM fleet for most of the 1st Interplanetary War exposed just how weak their fledgling fleet was in numbers, even though their ships were better one-to-one, they lacked enough of them to engage in a prolonged conflict. This fact came to light during the Ceres conflict of the early 2080s, when ships of the Ceres fleet challenged the Jovian Defense Forces 5th Cosmo Navy over Mars. The JDF ships were hard pressed to repel the Ceres forces and ship losses were unacceptable. The deficiencies inherent in the JDF 2nd and 5th Cosmo Navies were well known in 2079, however the Saturn 3rd Cosmo Navy fleet of Merkava, Granadas, and Titan classes had barely just begun construction and would not be battle ready for six years.
3rd Cosmo Navy:
The culmination of everything learned during the 1st Interplanetary War, the 3rd Cosmo Navy was the pinnacle of the 4th generation of Prodono-techology-based Terran built ships. Most of the ships in this fleet were not ready for the Ceres Conflict of the early 2080s, however, the Titan and a few battlegroups of the 3rd Cosmo Navy were brought online prematurely to engage in the conflict due to the need to repel the Ceres fleet over Venus. With the politics of the Earth Federal Republic swinging to unity with the JDF in a Planetary Alliance against the Ceres Regency (which had transitioned into the Grand Duchy of Ceres and was moving towards becoming the Principality of Altair as the entire nation of Ceres moved to that star system), the need to complete the fleet arose. The 3rd Cosmo Navy was unique among the JDF forces built prior to 2085, due to the fact that it incorporated the technology of another alien race (whose derelicts were found drifting near Saturn). That race was called the Varna by the Prodono, and they used a form of electrolaser (not to be confused with a free-electron laser) the Prodono called an "Electro-Element Beam Cannon". This weapon gave the Enceladas, Granadas and Titan classes a heavy hitting "hard-laser" punch that could inflict considerable damage to Prodono style ships using energy-resistant armor. It was clear to any military observer of the day that the 3rd Cosmo Navy was not solely intended to fight against Terran ships of the Ceres forces, Colonial Confederacy, or Union of Solar Republics. The new JDF Saturn Navy was meant to go head-to-head with alien ships (specifically of Prodono ilk). This was further emphasized by the fact that the refit ships of 2nd Navy that were now in 3rd Navy all used triple-barrel electromagnetic particle accelerator cannon turrets in place of phased-energy-laser-amplified-compression weapons (PHELACs) or the traditional free-electron lasers used by the EFR. The ships of the 3rd Cosmo Navy also used 4th generation Stellar Warp Drives (considered unnecessary for simply traveling around the local group of stars around Sol) which gave most ships in the fleet the ability to travel up to 151 lights years in a month (one way). This gave the new fleet the ability to traverse further than any other in a shorter time period (by weeks). Third Cosmo Navy fully came online in 2085 and was used until the mid-2090s after the Outer Sphere war and 2nd Interplanetary War required the ships to be upgraded/refit leading to newer Cosmo Fleets of the Planetary and eventually Solar Alliance.
