(you are at the beginning)
season: spring
It had been many moons since he was in this place. The rolling hills, far off mountains and lush grasses. The passing of winter edged him back north towards the fertile lands of Cottonwood Valley, the strong scent of unfamiliar horses filling his nostrils as his instincts carried his hooves towards his birthplace. His time in the southern lands did the young colt well; he had filled out a bit, and the dapples that shown through the dark patches of his coat deemed him a very handsome stallion. While he was not the largest or the strongest horse, he carried knowledge passed down for generations of how to survive quite well in the often times unforgiving environment of his homeland.
His youth had tested him, and at only a few years old, he had already stolen from other stallions, but his inexperience rendered him unable to keep the mares he took. Determination washed over him just as the springtime warmth melted the snow on the grass, patches of green already alive and plenty. Mud splattered his legs as he trotted along, his mind muddled with thoughts. He hadn't stayed in one area for too long, very used to the bachelor life that this life had left him with thus far. Even his stay in his original band was cut quick, the herd leader chasing him off almost too soon from his mother. His will to survive was great though, and he was crafty, making up for his lack of strength.
This would be a new start, and to go with it, a new name. Dallas, he had acquired during his travels, when he met up with a band of bachelors. Just a small group, rowdy and creative in their own rights. Those fellows quite enjoyed their lifestyle. Stealing mares on occasion, otherwise running rampant through their much warmer and drier environment. He ran with them for a few moons, until the familiar pull back here came creeping up, as it always had.
And here he came. Older, potentially wiser, ready to make a mark on the world he called home.

And I'm officially alive! I just recently found myself able to come back to deviantART, and even more so just found more time in my life to actually work on art! I got the inspiration this morning to do a quick little image of my newest character, Dallas, for Cottonwood-Valley ! Very excited to be able to have that in my life to give me some inspiration every now and then, and will also be striving to make images for that lean more towards...quicker, not as refined images. I have a tendency to overdo it on a lot of my pieces, and I get frustrated very easily when I take forever on stuff. So these will be small, quick pieces to hopefully speed everything up ♥
