what do you do to make it so smooth? Do you use the smudge tool?

I block out color and shapes quite rough and then I blend them using a soft brush. I don't like using the smudge tool because the end-result can look smudgy
I only use 4 different brushes: 2 for generating textures, 1 for blocking and one for blending.
