Such a beautiful picture!
Maybe you could help me with something. I'm planning to paint a picture art nouveau style (I've never done it before) and I just don't know how to draw the frame elements. Actually I have problems with all the ornamental elements
My mind just can't figure out how to create them o.O

Thanks! In starting out I actually copied a lot I'd highly suggest doing some tracing studies of Mucha and free art nouveau border stock you can find easily on dA. Once you get used to how everything flows, then you can start creating your own. Generally, I start with florigraphy and what they flowers mean before I start developing borders and then work around the flowers I want to include. And keep a ton of cheap copy paper around! It's a lifesaver so your not dependent on nice paper (expensive!), it being too thick to trace onto/transfer over to your final drawing, etc.
Keep me posted on your progress and don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything else!

Research on the meaning of flowers was the first thing I've done (check!).
And I also started a sketch I can copy on "normal" paper (mostly because I have only one sheet of watercolour paper left ...check!)
Copying was my first intention too but I wanted to know if there's another way and I'm just too stupid to see it The most of the sketch is done already. I just need to add some small deatails.
Thank you so much for your advice (tracing other work is a great idea; that way my hand can memorise the movements)!

XD Oh, no. And if there is, I'm on the dumb spectrum as well. I'm mostly self-taught, so I probably do things that take the longest time since I wasn't trained to do what I actually like to do with art (went to a liberal college that hated older art styles...bad choice...).
Never underestimate tracing and muscle memory :> Most people think it's a cop-out, but as long as it's a teaching tool and you create your own stuff afterwards, I see no harm in it. I let the kids I teach trace over my drawings or images they find on the internet to practice all the time since most have had no drawing background. By the time they leave our campus, most are pretty confident in their skills. A decent chunk even request art classes when they get back to their home campuses Makes me proud!

I'm self taught as well. But I neglected art for some years and so I have to catch up on some stuff. I want to thank you so much for your help. I'm finished with my picture now and I'm so proud of it (which doesn't happen often ).

I'm so glad to hear, and it looks AMAZING, so I can understand why you're so proud of it! I'm so glad I could help out, if even a little, for that beautiful piece of art :> I hope to see more in the new year!
You should also really think about posting that piece to this group; I love them! artnouveau.deviantart.com/

I hope you got in! I've been gone for so long (oops!), so I haven't been able to take a peek through their submissions to see if you got in. I hope you've been making some new stuff too!

I did! :yay: And my picture was accepted...as well as the second one was (although I'm not that satisfied with it....not much detail and I didn't work very neatly oO). But I'm working on a third at the moment which should turn out as good as the first one (I hope)
Thank you again so much for your help. You might think it wasn't much, but to me it was a huge motivation

I'm so glad to hear that! And I understand the ups and downs of having a great and then a...not so good piece. They happen all the time in art nouveau it seems like. I bet the third one will be fantastic!
No worries at all! I'm a teacher, so it brings me a lot of joy seeing others use a bit of the knowledge I can give and take it so much further than I could have even imagined I'm so excited to see where you go from here

hey, no shame i used to be terrible up until my freshman year of high school. i was extremely lucky to have such an amazing art teacher that really got me into traditional art and i've just grown from there. really, i've only been doing "real" art for the past 7-8 years. it just takes a lot of time and dedication to get good at anything.
i took a peek at your gallery, and i'd definitely say that you're better in the 3D realm (especially compared to me! XD), which helps a lot when you have a grasp of 3D and translating it to 2D. so you're already on a good path!
