βSavonarola's bitterest enemies in Florence were the local Franciscans, and as soon as they found it was safe to manifest their malice, they hit upon a plan of undermining his authority by challenging him to prove his sanctity by walking barefoot over hot coals. Their challenge was doubtless intended as a bluff, and Savonarola was too prudent to accept it; but one of his enthusiastic coadjutors accepted it for him as an ordeal to test the relative holiness of the two factions, with Savonarola and/or his coadjutor skipping over the burning coals in competition with one or two Franciscans equally confident that the purity of their souls would keep the soles of their feet from the burning.β [link]

i googled Savonarola. he seems to have lived an interesting life. it didn't help me in understanding what's going on in the painting though.

The lime is lacking the wrinkles in her sweater. It isn't too distracting, but would look better if the iron-on was wrinkled on clothing items in the future. ^_^ Nevertheless, the girl stageleft freaks me out...

that is so awsome. I love how the young child floats above the snow as if in a state of stupor yet has a shocking face. I love how her jump rope turns into a snake towards the middle as if giving off the thought of "jumping over the impossible"
