Funny how the shapely, less-than-fully-dressed Glinda is complaining about how Oz is becoming an outlet for "perverted dreams." Very meta.

lol...That's why she is the villain. She's a hypocrite and a hero and a villain at the same time. Hopefully a fully rounded character that rings true to everyone reading it.

True, people tend to hold others to higher standards than themselves, and we all say things that we can't live up to. But in this case, Glinda seems to be making a joke about the story she's in.

As characters they are slaves to their world and their world is changing/evolving/deteriorating (all we be explained soon.) and some believe that their internal sense of morality will trump the changes in their world. While someone like Glinda wants to impose her sense of right and wrong on that world. Control your world or control yourself within your world. That's the essential theme of this story. Which is me taking a modern paranoid take on the basic themes of the original books. Reality vs. the Fantasy world and what if there was a "reality" within a fantasy environment are the stage dressing. What is the human side of Fantasy character? Those are the ideas I'm exploring with this piece. I also like to draw swords and armor and creatures so I'm solid.

I love her!! She is such a BITCH! Those are good villains to have!
I meant to say earlier that it was pretty cool how you twisted her around and into a villainous role.

I love treating villains as people who think they are heroes. It's my story crutch. Ha! I never get tired of it. In Glinda's mind she is doing what's right for OZ which will be revealed very soon in the story. Although that's just a way to justify her power grab in her own mind. Deep thoughts..lol!

That's a great way to go though. Conviction and strength of belief in a cause is everything to a character, good or bad. It makes them more dangerous too. The willingness to sacrifice the many for the greater majority is a scary thing.

I really dig the idea of how people/characters see themselves and how it's always a matter of perspective as to who we see ourselves as and how the world see us. A great example of this is Frost/Nixon. Nixon sees himself one way but his history tells a different story. In the end everyone is a part good part bad. I like exploring that idea in a fantasy comic setting. That and redemption and revenge. ha!

MikeHaff In reply to KomicKarl [2009-12-05 03:36:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I don't connect with that pureness factor that some people like to explore in their characters. I tend to think like you in that we are a balance of both sides and think it interesting to see how you harness and use those to achieve an ends.
I have Nixon /Frost in my Netflix queue and am going to move that to the top now. I really wanted to see that and just plain missed it in theaters.

Nixon/Frost is well acted. If you have a chance go on youtube and watch some of the original interviews because when you see Nixon deliver his version of things it's shocking how he sees himself and his place in history. He acts like he's been so put upon by the media and under appreciated. He sees himself as a hero yet he acts like he is above the law. Great character template for stories.

Oooooooh! I got shivers reading this page!
A love affair between Tin Man and Glinda!
Have you seen Wicked the Musical? Just curious . . .

I watched part of the musical on TV and I researched the book so I didn't accidentally cross over into their version. I like some of the music it's really well made from what I've seen.

Ah, I was just wondering because the guy who ends up being the Tin Man in Wicked has a huge crush on Glinda.

But yes, I saw the musical and it was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, it's nothing like the book. But still, both versions are very well-done in their own respective areas; however, if you read the book and then see the musical, or vice versa, you're going to be scarred. XD

I've been thinking about reading the book. I think the show is still playing here in LA. I should try and catch it.

Are you a Twilight reader? I read the books and the first movie was entertaining. Have not seen the new one.

I took my Ex to see Wicked. I'm no musical fan and I can genuinely say I enjoyed it. What surprised me the most was how funny it was.

ECB is heating up… dunno why, but it's incredibly fascinating to get this glimpse into Glinda and Tin's relationship way back when. There's "Realness" about it all.

No matter how fantastic the setting of the tale, the human heart always rings true… even if it's made of tin.

…erhaps, then most of all

Damn! You should be a writer and make your own comics. That was a well written comment! lol!

I tried to give it some real emotion behind the fantasy. I struggled with the layouts to try and get the mood right. The color helps.

I should check out Wicked.

When I'm not waxing dat ass, I'm waxing poetic.

Funny, even though it's Glinda's line, I can't count how many times I've said "If you can't help me, at least stay the $%^& our of my way." That's a sentiment I can get behind.

Particularly when it comes with flying monkeys.

…Random side thought. Have you ever considered a "Flying monkeys" backup or one-shot?

It's going to be revealed in the next couple pages she's trying to save him from her.

I have a side story/origin of the Scarecrow which is told in a series of images and prose. I need to post that at some point. No monkey side stories but the monkeys come more into play soon.

Aw, hell no. I refuse to lower myself to such filth.
The series needs to burn in hell for all eternity.
Sorry. *Cough* I really hate the books, mostly because of the rabid and insane fans. And not to mention the fact that all those fucking Twitards think Stephanie Meyer is better than Stephen King.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!
AAUUUUUGGGHHH! *RAAAGE*

Stephanie Meyer is not a good writer but I think she has some good concepts. She is no way Stephen King. The movies made a ton of money. I guess someone is digging it.

Yeah, all the retarded squealy little fourteen year olds and forty year old moms who don't get any are digging it.

And good concepts, are you kidding me? Her story is so cliche and overdone. Come on. How many stories have you read that have "hot angsty girl that thinks she's ugly meets super-uber-hot mister impossibly perfect and they fall in love?" The plot isn't any deeper than that. Boring.
Not to mention her sparkly vampires. What the hell?! Vampires don't fucking sparkle. Gr. She destroyed the image of vampires, her books are absolute shit, and it sickens me to see such filth so goddamn popular.

I think I hate the book so much because of the retarded fans going bat-shit over the whole thing. I mean, Stephen King said Stephanie Meyer wasn't a good writer in an interview and the fans of Twilight went ape-shit on him! God. It's like he had no right to state his own personal and honest opinion! One fan even went so far to sat Stephen King should take writing tips from Meyer because his books "are too detailed and weird."

Sorry for the long rant, but sweet Jesus, I really hate Twilight.

Ha. It is true..40 yr old moms are almost as bad as the 14 yr olds. I trip out when people compare it to Harry Potter in terms of depth. That's just crazy. I can't believe those fans could even think to go at Stephen King. That's just internet lowest common denominator thinking at work.
