Description ROSENCRANTZ: Whatever became of the moment when one first knew about death? There must have been one. A moment. In childhood. When it first occured to you that you don’t go on forever. Must have been shattering. Stamped into one’s memory. And yet, I can’t remember it. It never occured to me at all. We must be born with an intuition of mortality. Before we know the word for it. Before we know that there are words. Out we come, bloodied and squawling, with the knowledge that for all the points of the compass, theres only one direction. And time is its only measure.

Actually, if you want to know the story...Its a self portrait that I made after I had a brain aneurysm rupture and I somehow survived it despite all the cards being against me. I was told I should have died but ehhh I'm still here slaving to art haha. I usually wouldn't tell just anyone that but the fact that you said what you did made me feel like you deserved the story. No one ever thought of what led up to that. (Also thats why the head is half off)

This is still one of my favourites that you have. It could be because I was in the show that one time but it is still a wonderful piece nonetheless. An interesting and very thoughtful piece. And I really love the caption, both at the bottom of the picture and then the full quotation. Tom Stoppard is a wonderful writer.

Yeah, Rosencrantz is a great role. I was jealous of Josh when he played it.

Oh it wasn't my writing! Its from one of my favorite plays. If only I was that good.

I do need to start writing and posting it with my art though. I stopped because I thought people wouldn't want to read. >>;

TeapotDomescam In reply to Konoe [2010-10-26 20:00:29 +0000 UTC]

I would LOVE to read your writing to be honest.
I actually like to read a lot, but for some reason I am really scared to post it on DA. I don't think I want people to get all into critiquing it and stuff you know? OTL It would totally bum me out right now

DA doesn't have very many writing based submissions it makes me sad...

or when people DO post it up, it's like, who actually reads it right?
I always read the artists description btw

I never know what to put in the artist description.

I'd be lying if I said I read a lot of stuff on DA. I don't have the time.

The illustration is absolutely beautiful; the colours, and the relaxed flow of his body is amazing. And how your only draw part of his face... wow. I love this.

Not to mention that's one of my favourite quotes from one of my favourite plays

Konoe In reply to Trapps [2010-10-21 22:54:09 +0000 UTC]

Tom Stoppard is a genius. Did you see the movie? I was worried about watching it but they actually didn't mess it up.

Thank you for the compliments. I was worried about having only part of the head so its nice to hear that it doesn't look weird.

Trapps In reply to Konoe [2010-10-21 23:32:34 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't agree more; out of everything we read in English that year, this play was one of the ones I actually enjoyed (I'm really picky about my literature). I even wrote my final essay on it, and I'd been planning to just use Hamlet, completely uninspired, like everyone else.

Ahhh! Yes, I did see the movie! I had the same fears; I'd previously watched a terrible version of Hamlet/Gatsby/Death of a Salesman/a whole bunch of other play-to-movies and I was worried the R&GRD movie would be similar. Fortunately it was quite well done.
