I made this picture a while ago as a comissioned piece from Azure Drache. Link to his Fimfiction: www.fimfiction.net/user/267038…
This was the very last step I took with this picture. I animated the magical effects so that they create a loopable gif. I used a mix of flickering effects and wandering light dots along with a very subtle animation of soft lightspots wandering towards the center of the swirl.

I used Adobe After Effects. It originally is intended for video production but it works with this style and for this purpose quite well too. Thank you for your kind comment!
