I am to tell you some sad truth. This light is not natural. This is my early shot, I was just beginning to study photography that time. There were many errors in lighting. So the version that you see was corrected by Photoshop using so called 'Lighting effect'. Sometimes this feature is very useful...

Ah, that is ok. I have nothing against Photoshop, I use it A LOT. You still shot it using natural light, correct?

Certainly, there was natural light initially, from a window at the right. But this lighting was bad. I don't know how to explain it in English. There were no details, all pieces were lightened equally, this is not right. Still life is to have lights and shadows that are to create some volume of the pieces and of the total picture.
So using of photoshop has totally changed the initial lighting, the final picture is seemed as lightened by some spot source at the front side.
So there is nothing now from the initial lighting.
I hope you'll understand my poor English.

That's very amusing The frame almost works, but is still a little overwhelming, possibly because I feel there is not enough space around the composition to carry it, particularly at the bottom of the 'ainting'. I like the idea now though.

The frame was chosen in accordance with overall concept of the series. It is to be heavy, gold-plated etc as it is just a decoration for dinner-room and not a piece of art. It was a gift to master of the house for a dinner. It was painted in haste so it requires rich frame. You see the frame in fact turned to be primitive but well gold-plated.
In fact i like this shot itself. If it was not intended for the concept i would make a common frame with thin white line and black border. Though you may be right and there are more space aroud the scene necessary... But where can i get this space? I'll try to make new still lifes in autumn...

Now, that's a very interesting point that reminds me of many 'oorly done' works I've seen in local art galleries/picture framing shops that have magnificent and expensive frames. Hah! Many great canvases have no frames at all.

Recently there was an exhibition of Modigliani in Moscow. There was a picture that hanged on a strange stand instead of a wall as usual. I come close and saw that on the other side of canvas there was another picture. Well, the picture on the front side isn't a masterpiece, surely. Just the genius may make a weak work. Modigliani was obviously failed to sale this work and desided to use the other side probably due to lack of money. Just imagine how much these pictures may cost now...
