On the way to Suna, after rescuing Gaara from the Akatsuki.Aaaaand Happy Fan Day , again!
(re: "like you did for me" - they both stayed in Konoha for three months between the Sasuke retrieval mission and the timeskip, this is canon in the manga timeline. In my head it's also canon that for most of those three months Gaara lived with Naruto at his apartment.)

I didn't know that Gaara stayed for three months in Konoha. But I can imagine him living with Naruto instead of an inn.

It's not made very clear, and I'm not sure how much thought Kishimoto gave that because one'd think the readers would be curious about what the characters, especially the sand siblings who are back at Konoha for the first time since they were part of an invasion plot, have been doing for three months. There's the brief scene where Tsunade observes Sakura's progress at healing, and thinks to herself that Sakura has come so far in only three months, so it's been that long since the Sasuke rescue mission, as Sakura became Tsunade's apprentice after that. Both Naruto and Gaara are shown leaving Konoha after that scene.
(I forget how exactly it goes in the anime with all the fillers, but there, too, the sand siblings don't leave Konoha right away (apparently they've been teaching at the academy? why aren't we shown that??). And of course, the last Part1 filler arc has Naruto and Gaara end up sharing a hospital room, so... I'm sure at least then, they would have talked.)
I like to think Gaara went to visit Naruto at the hospital after the Sasuke rescue mission, and caught Naruto sneaking out before being officially released but wanting to go home already, and followed to make sure Naruto was okay. Then Naruto invited Gaara to stay, and it turned out neither of them wanted Gaara to leave even at the end of the day, so, roommates for three months.

This is sweetness overload! I love storys like this, were the face expressions and tender words say everything without directly showing a hug or even a kiss. Sometimes the glances say more.

Thank you. At this point Naruto and Gaara aren't very used to physical affection with each other yet, so no hug or kiss. I'm glad the affection gets across anyway. They've kind of been married since before they started holding hands (which they do the next day, actually).
The backgrounds are watercolour and ink with digital editing. The first, second, and last panels' bgs are mostly traditional media (and so is the grass in the fourth panel), the rest are mostly digital shading on a scan of watercolour texture.

Yes, I think itΒ΄s very precious not to overdo at first. The shows of affection grow with time, that makes it more natural.
