Yeah, the Koopalings have sure gained popularity since Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4.I want say I don't have a favorite, but I always use Lemmy in Smash.

I know he's sometimes thrown in together with them, but he's technically not a Koopaling. I believe Bowser Junior is the only one who's actually Bowser's son. The Koopa Kids... could be adopted? Or they're just there randomly as castle bosses? Nintendo don't tend to explain these things.

Man, I remember growing up and watching the Mario Bros. 3 cartoon, and these guys were in it, I loved them, and this is like, a nostalgia rush, great artwork. I like Ludwig or Kooky or whatever they call him nowadays, he's my favorite <3

Ludwig is pretty awesome, it seems that he, Iggy and Lemmy are the most popular ones.
