Gah, okay so, I'm not happy with this outcome of this one...drew it about 10 days ago and figured I cant let it sit around forever.In the beginning stages of drawing this I was thinking, hey this is gonna be fun, because I haven't drawn a koopaling in about 3...4...5 years? So I was thrilled to do another Super Mario fanart piece for old times sake.
Buuuut looking at it (and it couuuld be just me, cause' you know I have a habit of being hard on myself sometimes) I just feel its not super exciting and I probably could have done better. Β I pretty much had an off day I guess...come to think of it- the day after I drew it I started getting a cold. But hey, we all kinda have one of those days, yeah?
But anyway, enough negativity! Sorry. So....here's an upload for you guys since I postponed one for last week and so I can only hope you'll enjoy it, regardless. :^)
I think I should do another SMB scene in the future to make up for, uh...this. Heh!

My friend growing up had a SNES and Super Mario Bros. All of my Mario knowledge comes from watching her play, because I suck super hard at platforming. And that was nearly 20 years ago. Wow I'm old.Β

I bet most people would have preferred this type of SMB movie rather than the live action one.
Admittedly the Koopalings' designs do look a bit... odd. I'm not a huge fan of Ludwig and Larry's slim mouths. That and they do look too old. I prefer the Koopalings looking quite young. Morton is probably my favourite Koopaling in this picture. I like how he's definitely large but not as large as Bowser. Iggy is a close second though. It sounds odd but I can imagine him being voiced by Jim Cummings in this. One more thing I have to say is that some of the extra details are nice on them, like Ludwig's scarf (and Larry's pants? Or am I seeing things?).
I am happy you managed to draw Mario and Luigi as well

I think this is a well drawn piece ... but if I can be perfectly honest, I don't think this is what I want from an animated Mario adventure. Something about the characters in this style (particularly the Koopalings) don't seem to click with me. Now granted this is just a personal opinion, I'm sure there are countless others who'd disagree with me in a heartbeat.
That being said, I still think it's a great art piece. You captured that distinct Dom Bluth style beautifully. I just don't think it fits Mario in my opinion

Maybe what you're missing is a longer shot down the cliff, portraying more Koopalings chasing them.

Aww jeez, I've sorta been having a bit of an urge to replay some of those games Don Bluth made (Dragon's Lair and the like), and now I see something that mixes Bluth with one of my favorite gaming icons xDDD
Still this turned out nice dude! The Koopalings look disgustingly evil yet easily identifiable, and the Mario Bros turned out nice as well (also I just noticed Luigi's rocking some fairly long hair). Looking forward to anything else you've got in store for this series.
