Description
Gah, okay so, I'm not happy with this outcome of this one...drew it about 10 days ago and figured I cant let it sit around forever. In the beginning stages of drawing this I was thinking, hey this is gonna be fun, because I haven't drawn a koopaling in about 3...4...5 years? So I was thrilled to do another Super Mario fanart piece for old times sake.
Buuuut looking at it (and it couuuld be just me, cause' you know I have a habit of being hard on myself sometimes) I just feel its not super exciting and I probably could have done better. Β I pretty much had an off day I guess...come to think of it- the day after I drew it I started getting a cold. But hey, we all kinda have one of those days, yeah?
But anyway, enough negativity! Sorry. So....here's an upload for you guys since I postponed one for last week and so I can only hope you'll enjoy it, regardless. :^)
I think I should do another SMB scene in the future to make up for, uh...this. Heh!

Luigi's faaaaaaace--I LOVE THIS HOLY GOSH. I super adore how you've captured Lemmy's goofiness here; the bros, oh my gorsh they look flipping amazing. Again, ultra-fantastic job on the coloring and that old-movie-screenshot-esque effect you give your pictures!

This is awesome! Well, just remember, you can't improve if you don't not like your art sometimes. I mean it's not good to hate all of your art, but if you thought your art was perfect and you never wanted to change it, you'd never improve! So don't think of your negativity as always being a bad thing. Your art is very splendid and pleasing to look at. Carry on with your drawings ^^

Disney didn't make these styles movies that the artist is drawing in.Β These are the styles of Don Bluth's films.Β He did start with Disney, but broke off and made his own animation studio

Ugh, don't remind me...Disney has created this image that it can't hold up to, yet people still believe in it, and their ego just keeps growing...
They keep buying out other companies because their own franchise characters aren't selling enough, unless its an over-hyped movie like Cars or Frozen, and even then its mostly the parents buying it for their kids.
I see a lot of "Mickey Mouse" related merchandise, and I'm sorry there just isn't any connection for me there anymore.Β Mickey is like the Barbie of the Disney universe:Β He's any and everything.Β There isn't one thing that you can tie Mickey to that makes him unique (aside from being a mascot, but that's not enough)Β Sure, there's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but....that's just brain-numbing garbage.

Cool-Hand-Mike In reply to Wakerra [2015-05-26 11:38:43 +0000 UTC]
I agree at 100%. Mickey has become a plain brand with no use beyond that. The company seems to have acknowledged this and is trying to change it with the new 2D Mickey shorts. Have you seen them? They're directed by talented people like Paul Rudish and more people from Dexter's Lab and a bunch of good series. These people have done a great job redefining the character and making a real artistic effort that rejects the 'let's make all this in generic CGI' constant that is ruining any serious approach to the art of cartoon.

I recall a Mickey short before a movie once...can't remember which one (Meet the Robinsons maybe?)Β It looked like an older film they'd revived to play before the movie.Β I haven't paid a lot of mind to anything Disney lately, unless it looked really worth my time

Apparently Disney started pushing Mickey Mouse again when they found out that kids these days don't recognize him as much as characters like Mario. But it doesn't really do anything for me either, and really, I don't know anyone who particularly likes any recent incarnations of Mickey. He's a mascot, but on his own, he's not all that interesting.

Wakerra In reply to marshmallowcreampie [2015-05-26 05:15:26 +0000 UTC]
nope.Β I think the more common mascots are recognized for their video games.Β They have something to go off of, Mickey...has terrible TV shows and overly-marketed merchandise.
I admit, Epic Mickey was amazing, and I wish the sequel had as much thought and time put into it as the first.Β It feels rushed, and as a result, is extremely glitchy and frustrating to beat...

Be fair. I know the history of that movie. It was always intended to be live action, but originally, it was supposed be MUCH closer to the games, and starring Danny DeVito as Mario instead of Bob Hoskins. However, that fell apart when DeVito dropped out to do "Batman Returns," (and was briefly replaced by Bruno Kirby before he dropped out, too) and the original director was fired due to creative differences. The new directors, who were, according to Bob Hoskins, "f*ckin' idiots," had the script completely rewritten to a more sci-fi-look. Originally, this new script was supposed to be a cross between fantasy and sci-fi (kind of like Ghostbusters), and have Tom Hanks play Mario. However, Hanks was fired because the studio didn't think he was "blockbuster material" (and it was quickly proven wrong when Forrest Gump came out just one year after this move did), and was replaced by Bob Hoskins. Meanwhile, the script was rewritten to have a more adult, Bladerunner-esque theme. What followed was an extremely troubled production with constant rewrites of the script, psychotic directors, Bob Hoskins getting his hand broken, Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo getting drunk on set, Dennis Hopper going on a three-hour-long Christian Bale-like rant against the directors, cast members living in poor housing, and the directors being fired just two weeks before filming was finished and the remaining two weeks being handled by lower-level staff instead of another director.
And thus, the 1993 film was made!
Hopefully, the next time around it doesn't implode like that.
