Description Gah, okay so, I'm not happy with this outcome of this one...drew it about 10 days ago and figured I cant let it sit around forever.

In the beginning stages of drawing this I was thinking, hey this is gonna be fun, because I haven't drawn a koopaling in about 3...4...5 years? So I was thrilled to do another Super Mario fanart piece for old times sake.
Buuuut looking at it (and it couuuld be just me, cause' you know I have a habit of being hard on myself sometimes) I just feel its not super exciting and I probably could have done better. Β I pretty much had an off day I guess...come to think of it- the day after I drew it I started getting a cold. But hey, we all kinda have one of those days, yeah?

But anyway, enough negativity! Sorry. So....here's an upload for you guys since I postponed one for last week and so I can only hope you'll enjoy it, regardless. :^)
I think I should do another SMB scene in the future to make up for, uh...this. Heh!

HOWEVER!
I see your Mario pictures and know that if Nintendo ever let there be another Mario movie that in your capable hands it would be the movie that the live action should have been!

Funny you would say that about Mario. Back in December, leaked e-mails revealed that Sony and Nintendo were in negotiations to make an animated Super Mario film, scheduled to be released in 2017. Ever since, I've been constructing a fan pitch (complete with a completed script, a suggested cast, and suggested designs) to Sony and Nintendo on how the film should be made. Ironically enough, I came to a conclusion that it should be a Don Bluth animated film (and I came to this conclusion several months before this picture was posted, so I'm glad someone has the same sentiments as me). The reason why I settled with Don Bluth is because right now, just like in 1979, Bluth has an opportunity to take a huge chunk of Disney animators and make a new studio. There are quite a few animators at Disney who are angry with the studio's decision to abandon 2-D animation for its movies following the success of "Frozen," and if Bluth decides to come out of retirement and start a new studio, he can easily get these animators to leave Disney so they can once again do what they love: make 2-D animated films. Should Sony and Nintendo get onboard with my idea (which seems like a long shot, but who knows?) I'm going to lobby HARD to get Bluth out of retirement so he can make this film. I strongly suggest that he should partner with James Lopez, another Disney animator who's already making his own independent film, called "Hullabaloo." However, the big fish that I REALLY want Bluth to go fishing for is Stephen Spielberg, who previously collaborated with Bluth on "An American Tail" and "The Land Before Time." If Spielberg joins the project, this would change everything, as it opens the door for the possibility of ILM-designed special effects, which have never been placed in a 2-D animated film before. Imagine an animated film with the special effects seen in movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T., Jurassic Park, Titanic, Harry Potter, Avatar, etc., except they are converted to look like they were drawn by traditional animators instead of looking like they were made for live-action films. It would probably be the most elaborate 2-D animated film ever made, and make Disney look like amateurs. Spielberg would also open the door for a score written by John Williams, who wrote the scores for the Star Wars movies, the first Superman movie, E.T., the Indiana Jones movies, the first two Jurassic Park movies, and the first three Harry Potter movies.

I'm telling you, I'm working hard for this movie to happen. If Kosperry is interested in working with Don Bluth, he may well get his wish.

DaKardii In reply to TwistedToonTaylor [2015-06-19 14:51:04 +0000 UTC]

In order to understand the suggested cast, you would have to know their designs and personalities for my proposed fan pitch, respectively.

-For Mario, my first choice would be Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, you're probably wondering, why would ANYBODY choose HIM to voice Mario? Well, my reasoning is the following: my version of Mario is going to have a COMPLETELY different personality from the one seeing in the games. This version of Mario is going to be ill-tempered, sarcastic, cocky, and skeptical, kind-of like how Han Solo is in Star Wars. That's the personality Leonardo DiCaprio has in many of his other movies. Meanwhile, Mario is NOT going to look like the way he does in the picture. He's going to look like a slightly altered version of how he appears in the Japanese box art for Super Mario Bros. (which can be found HERE: 3.bp.blogspot.com/-lLPZauMX0Qw… ) When I mean slightly altered, I mean his hair will be black instead of brown. Other than that, he looks exactly the same (the movie's going to be an adaption of the first Super Mario Bros. game, so the characters are going to have retro appearances). When I first saw the picture, I looked at Mario's face, and said, "he looks just like Jack Nicholson there, with the eyebrows and the mouth." Leonardo DiCaprio looks a lot like Jack Nicholson, and unlike Nicholson, he's part Italian. On top of that, Wolf of Wall Street has proven that DiCaprio can pull off a great New York accent. If he lowers his voice slightly and makes it more gruff, he sounds a LOT like how Mario sounded in the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Super Mario World Cartoon. In addition, DiCaprio's body language and facial movements are going to be incorporated into Mario's animation. The final result will be a Mario that looks exactly like Mario but his movements will look exactly like DiCaprio's. This can be achieved by having DiCaprio pretend to act out scenes as if they were live action while recording his dialogue on a microphone attatched to his head (this is called emotion capture, a word play on motion capture), filming DiCaprio's performance, and draw Mario making said movements and expressions.

-For Luigi (who looks just like his modern appearance, except the colors of his shirt and overalls are switched, his eyes are green, and his hair is black), my first choice would be Ben Savage. In case you don't know who his is, he played Corey Matthews on "Boy Meets World" back in the '90s and is currently reprising that role on "Girl Meets World." I chose him because like DiCaprio, he was a '90s heartthrob, and like Corey, Luigi is supposed to be funny, obnoxious, and easy-going, while also determined to fix problems should they come up. DiCaprio and Savage would make a GREAT onscreen pair of siblings because I can picture DiCaprio easily becoming annoyed by Savage's antics and just lose his temper at him on a regular basis (without the significant violence that comes with DiCaprio's temper tantrums in his other movies; I'm talking more like how Uncle Phil loses his temper with Will in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air).

-For Peach (who will look just like her pre-2000s appearance except her face will be altered slightly to more closely resemble her voice actress, and once you read who it's supposed to be, you'll understand why), my first choice is Isla Fisher (she's played Shaggy's girlfriend in the live-action Scooby Doo movie, the girl who ties Vince Vaughn to a bed and puts a sock in his mouth in Wedding Crashers, Beans in Rango, and the Tooth Fairy in Rise of the Guardians). I chose her because first, she has the type of in-between-voice where she can easily imitate both how Peach sounds in the games and how she sounds in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. And I'm talking about a GOOD imitation. I actually think that she would be a good voice actress for Peach in the games as well. In addition, she is capable of playing both cute and cuddly characters and tough and stern characters. In my fan pitch, Peach is a combination of both. She is kind and gentle, but also ill-tempered and ready to kick butt if needed. She is also very intelligent and ready to lead the pack into the face of danger when no-one else can or is willing to. For most of the film, she doesn't appear in her princess clothes. Her wardrobe more closely resembles a cross between that of Han Solo and Katniss Everdeen. Instead of just taking over the kingdom, Bowser has already ruled the kingdom for 20 years in my fan pitch, and Peach is helping lead a rebellion to overthrow Bowser and restore the true king. She doesn't reveal her real identity until about a little more than half way through the film, and she doesn't get captured until about three-fourths of the way through.

-For Bowser (called King Koopa in my fan pitch; he refuses to allow anyone to call him "Bowser," and the reason why will be revealed inΒ  the sequel (this is supposed to be a four-movie series)), my first choice is Christian Bale, talking an a deeper, darker, more malevolent version of his Batman voice. He will look exactly like he did in the DIC cartoons, except his eyeballs will be white instead of yellow, and his eye color will be red instead of dark green. Also, unlike his DIC cartoon counterpart, this version of Bowser WILL breathe fire.

-For Toad, my first choice would be John Stocker, who previously voiced him in the DIC cartoons in the late '80s and early '90s. He will also have the same design as in the cartoons, except the colors match his modern appearance.

Other honorable mentions include:

-Amy Adams as Daisy, Luigi's girlfriend in Brooklyn. She is kidnapped by Bowser early in the movie when he mistakes her for Peach, and that's what leads to Mario and Luigi stumbling into the Mushroom Kingdom.

-Christopher Plummer as Woltan, a wizard who Mario and Luigi meet early in the film and he occasionally helps them on their quest. He and Mario don't get along that well, but that doesn't stop him from doing what's right.

-Katherine Ross as Ursula, Woltan's wife.

-Ty Simpkins as Michael, Woltan's son.

-Harvey Atkin as Kamek. Atkin previously voiced King Koopa in the DIC cartoons.

-Andrew Sebastion as Yoshi, reprising his role in the Super Mario World cartoon.

-Danny DeVito and Talia Shire as Mario and Luigi's parents (seen in two flashbacks)

-Jim Cummings as Mugger, a Boom-Boom who is the captain of Bowser's guards and Bowser's third-in-command (only behind Kamek)

-Sofia Vergara as Brenda, Mario's ex-girlfriend (seen in a flashback and as an illusion created by Bowser during the final battle)

-Jay-Z as Vinnie, a thug in Brooklyn who harasses Daisy in one scene.

In addition, Walker Boone, Tony Rosato, Jeannie Elias, Tracey Moore, John Stocker, and Harvey Atkin, who voiced Mario (seasons 2-3), Luigi (seasons 2-3), Peach (season 1), Peach (seasons 2-3), Toad (seasons 1-2), and King Koopa respectively in the DIC cartoons are all making cameo appearances (by voicing very minor characters).

These sound really interesting but all of these throwbacks to the old cartoon are bumming me out, why would Nintendo want to bring that mess up again?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DaKardii In reply to TwistedToonTaylor [2015-06-20 03:10:39 +0000 UTC]

First off, the film is not based off the cartoons. It's an entirely new story. Any references to the cartoons will be subtle, not counting the voice actors making cameos (except John Stocker and Andrew Sebastion, who are reprising their roles as Toad and Yoshi, respectively).Β

Second, as silly the cartoons were, they were the best adaptions of the Mario series onscreen. I prefer them over the 1993 film and especially the 1986 anime movie (the former barely resembles the games, and the latter is so poorly written that it seems more like a satire or parody of Mario than actual adaption. At least the cartoons tried to be faithful to the games and follow the character's backgrounds correctly.)

DaKardii In reply to TwistedToonTaylor [2015-06-21 02:47:23 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry. There aren't going to be any pasta jokes in this pitch. As for the pasta jokes that were there in the old cartoons, they weren't that bad compared to the abject NONSENSE that was in the 1986 anime movie. I don't know if you've seen it (I have, unfortunately), but if you haven't, I'll tell you what it has:

NOTE: SPOILER ALERT.

-The animation is low-quality for anime, especially since it came out the same year as Laputa: Castle in the Sky (one of the greatest anime movies ever made). It's actually worse than the animation for the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

-Luigi looks NOTHING like his game appearance. He has a blue hat, blue overalls, a yellow shirt, and a Mario-styled mustache. He is also VERY unlikeable, as he is so greedy that he often gets himself into situations that either endanger himself or endanger both himself and Mario. He's kind of like a cross between Jar Jar Binks and a less evil version of Wario.

-Peach is an annoying ditz. Her voice sounds like a child, and she kisses Mario not for saving her, but for giving her back her sapphire locket that she has instead of the sapphire brooch that is on her chest in the games.

-Toad only appears in once scene. ONE SCENE!!! To make matters even worse, he sounds like a little girl, and he looks NOTHING like his game appearance. He has a PINK hat with light PINK polka-dots, a purple vest, and a PINK shirt. Oh, and he has eyelashes. No, I'm not joking.

-Bowser can't be taken seriously as a villain in this movie. His voice is FAR from the dark demonic voice we would expect him to have. In fact, he's voiced by the woman who voices Marge Simpson in the Japanese dub of the Simpsons! In addition, he often has facial expressions that make him look like he's a cute and cuddly good guy that just wants a woman. He has the maturity of a little kid. He's inconsistent in his motives for doing what he does (first it's because he loves Peach, then it's because he's evil. To make matters even worse, he makes a reference to how evil he is only once, and when he does, he does it casually. There is absolutely NOTHING else in this movie that indicates that that's his motivation.). Oh, and did I mention that he only breathes fire ONCE? ONCE!

-The movie ends with Peach marrying some prince that got turned into a (blue, very badly-designed) dog by Bowser and accompanied Mario and Luigi on their quest throughout the movie (he gets changed back in the end, of course). I personally wouldn't have had a problem with that because this was made before the Mario X Peach fandom really started, if it weren't for how the prince is DRAWN. He has BLUE hair and his princely attire is PINK. Easily the most feminine prince I've ever seen onscreen.

-There are several scenes that don't make sense. For example, instead of plumbers who live in Brooklyn, Mario and Luigi are grocers who live in the middle of the desert. Also, during the opening scene, Mario asks Peach if the Koopa Troopas are her friends WHILE she's being attacked by them. There's a scene where Mario and Luigi meet a hermit who tells them of a prophecy where two men of limited intelligence (he actually brings up the intelligence of the prophesied heroes), before turning into a pile of rotten mushrooms. There's a scene where Mario uses a Super Mushroom to grow giant in order to defeat a Giant Koopa Troopa, despite the fact that he NEEDS a Super Mushroom as one of the three sacred items needed to defeat Bowser in the final battle (along with a Fire Flower and a Starman.) Oh, did I mention that when he finally eats the Super Mushroom (which he somehow has again as part of a MASSIVE continuity issue) and the Fire Flower, they don't affect him. At all. He doesn't grow big, and he doesn't turn into Fire Mario. There's a scene where Mario and Luigi escape from a forest of Piranha Plants that sinks into the ground for NO REASON after they get out. They are then confronted by a Lakitu who blames them for the loss of his garden (which, like I said, sank into the ground for NO REASON), and attacks them in a fight scene that is so poorly animated that at one point Mario is climbing a vine and you can't tell whether he's climbing up or down. There's a scene where Mario and Luigi are thrown in a stone dungeon that has bars they can easily squeeze through. Meanwhile, Luigi happens to have a pickaxe on him, but instead of using it to break out, he uses it to dig for gold. When Mario notices, it doesn't occur to him that the pickaxe can be used to break out.

-Finally, there is a scene that not only makes me question whether this was made for kids, but also make me question if the film has a good moral. There's a scene where two Goombas trick Luigi into eating mushrooms that make his emotions change (he's really hungry, so he is willing to eat anything, even wild mushrooms). He ends up switching between laughing hysterically, crying like a baby, or throwing a violent temper tantrum (during which he punches Mario in the face). Doesn't that sound like Luigi's doing Magic Mushrooms? He's using drugs in a KIDS MOVIE!? Also, doesn't that sound like the film's telling kids that eating wild mushrooms and/or doing Magic Mushrooms is OK, because they can make you happy? I would appreciate it if content that would normally appear in an R-rated movie does NOT appear in a Mario movie.

Now, do you see why this movie is worse than both the cartoons and the 1986 live-action movie?
