Description Gah, okay so, I'm not happy with this outcome of this one...drew it about 10 days ago and figured I cant let it sit around forever.

In the beginning stages of drawing this I was thinking, hey this is gonna be fun, because I haven't drawn a koopaling in about 3...4...5 years? So I was thrilled to do another Super Mario fanart piece for old times sake.
Buuuut looking at it (and it couuuld be just me, cause' you know I have a habit of being hard on myself sometimes) I just feel its not super exciting and I probably could have done better. Β I pretty much had an off day I guess...come to think of it- the day after I drew it I started getting a cold. But hey, we all kinda have one of those days, yeah?

But anyway, enough negativity! Sorry. So....here's an upload for you guys since I postponed one for last week and so I can only hope you'll enjoy it, regardless. :^)
I think I should do another SMB scene in the future to make up for, uh...this. Heh!

Yeah, he would have. When I think of a theoretical animated Mario movie that is made in the '80s, I picture one of three people voicing Mario: Dom, John Belushi, or John Candy. All three of them are now deceased. RIP.

Is...is this Super Mario Brothers done in the style of Don Bluth? Don Bluth, the master of animation who gave us such classics as the Secret of NIMH and the original Land Before Time (you know, when it was good)?

You my wonderful artist...have done something truly beautiful. May the animation gods smile upon you for all the rest of your days.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DaKardii In reply to LionsDisciple [2015-06-26 00:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Bluth was only involved in the first film. In fact, the only sequel to ANY of his films that he was involved with was "Bartok the Magnificent," a direct-to-video prequel to "Anastasia" that was released in 1998.

LionsDisciple In reply to DaKardii [2015-07-21 06:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know. That's why I said, "back when it was good". The sequels don't even look like a Don Bluth film. The first couple look like someone amateurishly trying to copy a Don Bluth look, and after that it's like they just gave up altogether.

I miss Don Bluth, you are a blessing. You may have been asked this countless amounts of times, but I was wondering: How did you draw this? It looks so traditional and the effects are spot-on. I love Don Bluth's art-style, but I've been stuck for years trying to figure out he does it.

Don Bluth presents: Super Mario Bros. The Movie.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DaKardii In reply to Awesomeness360 [2015-06-26 00:05:22 +0000 UTC]

Bluth has turned out great films (The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, Land Before Time, Anastasia), okay films (All Dogs Go to Heaven, Thumbelina, Titan A.E.), bad films (Rock-a-Doodle, Bartok the Magnificent), and abysmal films (A Troll in Central Park, The Pebble and the Penguin) alike. If he did a Super Mario Bros. Movie, I hope it would fall in the "great films" category, as would any Mario fan. But even if it didn't, it would be guaranteed to be better than the first two attempts to make a Mario movie. I'll vent my spleen over THOSE messes another time.

WhizofDiz13 In reply to ??? [2015-05-26 03:53:11 +0000 UTC]

Pfft. That is so Iggy.

As for why you might feel dissatisfied, there is always adding all the Koopalings, but I see something which bothers me, too.

With the way Ludwig, Lemmy, and Iggy are positioned, as well as Mario helping Luigi up, it looks like the fight/chase is going uphill, but the angle of Morton's jump and the blocks in the sky, it looks like they are coming downhill. This disjointed perspective might be making you feel off about this image.

Otherwise, great work. Good characterization for a still, and well inked and colored. If it weren't so time/resource consuming, I'd like to see you do an animated film at some point.
