A fun challenge this month from 's Deviant Universe Project: Take an established comic cover and adapt it to feature DU characters!I chose a great old John Byrne Alpha Flight cover and switched the colour scheme so that it worked with Vigil's white suit. Here's a link to a comparison of the original! Apologies to Mr Byrne!

lol, there's no attempt to pass off his work as mine here - this was a part of an art challenge where we 'adapted' old covers with our characters - so more of a homage than stealing! I did two other covers as a part of this project, and put comparison pictures (with my covers next to the originals) in my scraps gallery, if you're interested!

They truly are. Probably still my favourite of my collection of 30 longboxes. To bad he didn't really like his own creations. As throwaway characters they weren't created for their own book so he hadn't put much thought into them to begin with.

Yeah I read that somewhere - I guess he wrote himself into a corner with having all that creative freedom! For example killing off the leader so early was really shocking and a great scene... but then he kind of needed him!

Very cool. I really love how well this works in negative of the Alpha Flight cover. I don't think this would have worked that well for the Snowbird cover that's mostly white. It would have just been Vigils disembodied head, kind of like a reverse Holly from Red Dwarf.

I remember that one - got to give points to Byrne for having the balls to hand in a comic with empty white panels! That must have been the easiest comic to draw ever!

Very interesting one ( and thanks for cutting off Rufus' head and including it into this picture ).
I must admit, I'm not entirely sure if I get the idea - is it Cyberspace? - but it looks sharp.
Not too sure about your take on Vicky Velocity though.
I have a feeling her hair ain't foxy enough ... if you know what I mean?

Vicky's hair presents all sorts of problems for those of us with a more 'realistic' style! She's a great character though so I wanted to include her. As for what's going on.... no idea! The original was a crashlanded space ship, but this? Yeah cyberspace, why not? lol! The advantage of just doing single images is that you never have to explain how you got there and what happens next!
