Description
This page continues from 's excellent entry to the August challenge! Despite best efforts (and almost killing myself trying to finish three pages at once) I missed the deadline by a measly day! So no points again but at least we get to see what happened to Vigil and Threadjacker after this happened:Next Page:

In other Vigil news - there are two more pages to go of the sequence with Vigil and Sigma - which will post soon! Then we can actually read the whole story! Summer challenge? Not kidding!

I have to say that it's nice to see a page where poor Vigil isn't in terrible pain or being tortured in some awful way! That 1st panel instantly made me think of Luc Besson's The Fifth Element! Amazing work!

Thanks! The set up panel was my favourite bit of this sequence really, which was one in a bit of a rush. Vigil had to go through an ordeal really - both in leaving the DU, and then to return to it and get back to where she belongs. But having escaped Asclepus clutches we're now able to start again. Obviously she's going to keep putting herself in harms way - because that's just who she is! But she's going to rack up a few more in the 'win' column I think!

Great idea for the gritty, grimey (emphasis on grimey!) underbelly of this hi-tech future world!
Whatever Sigma did, it seems to have reset Vigil's attitude to the same arrogant state she's known for.

The arrogance is her super-power! That was a daft joke but actually it's kind of true! Vigil almost lost her confidence in herself and was prepared to admit defeat and give in to Asclepus. But he had to get her into that state before he could defeat her - and by interrupting before he was done, Sigma broke his spell. Vigil knows she isn't able to power through every challenge - but she's convinced she'll win in the end, and so far she's been proved right!
Thanks for the kind words about the art - the establishing shot is my favourite bit of this sequence, which was done in a bit of a rush unfortunately.

The fact that the robots, and by extension, Cape Caro, wants you to dig is the best reason not to!
There is something humorous about two characters who dislike each other being forced to work side by side or even together in an escape attempt

That was the idea! Things have been a bit grim lately so this was a welcome chance to do something a bit lighter

Vigil is not into dicks, huh?
Nice idea to portray that neon cityscape as a masquerade with such a nasty downside, build on human suffering.
Awesome take on the Havoc Corp cyborgs, too.
Soooooooooo ... here's a question: Who would Vigil rather be in a room with, TJ or Rufus?

I hope that's a typo!
Tough choice! TJ probably, because Rufus is (in her opinion) just a villain so she'd fight him, whereas TJ is a hero so she would presumably have to work with her. But not an easy choice!

Vigil, Vigil ... her world really is black and white, is it not?

Kostmeyer In reply to Branded-Curse [2017-09-01 18:19:01 +0000 UTC]
Well... she'd feel bad about hurting TJ but if she dropped a truck on Rufus I doubt she'd lose much sleep over it! On another note - have you thought about the September Challenge yet?

Yeah, she never understood Rufus and she never will.
Who cares his life, his family, all he ever was has been taken from him, even the memories of it?
Who cares he has been treated like a "thing", not a person, by officials for years?
That's still not excuse to act like a douche!
As for the challenge, no I haven't. Just saw it about an hour ago.

I think she's more interested in how he acts now - although actually - have they ever properly met beyond sharing a few crowd scenes? Centauri has a bigger reason to hate him, out of my characters!

Aside from non-canon images, I think they haven't, actually
They interacted during certain events, mostly in the DU, but that's that, I think.
But Rufus is actually a lot bigger a man than he lets the world see. Just look at the Shadow Reaper, that could be Rufus, if he'd just give in to the ghoul's corruption.
But he keeps fighting it. For a world that will never understand him.
That thing with Centauri was ... unfortunate. Rufus is like a shark, when he is in a frenzy, he snaps hard at things he usually wouldn't touch.
He was angry and worked into such a frenzy during that event. Not an excuse though, he REALLY crossed the line.
What are you doing this month? Any plans yourself?

Kostmeyer In reply to Branded-Curse [2017-09-01 19:19:49 +0000 UTC]
This is why I think the Centauri story we did was so important. If people knew about his past and if his efforts to be good were widely known, he'd be less interesting and less tragic - the fact that the world sees him as a psychotic killer makes it more interesting. Will he get the chance to prove he's more than that before Thunder Force take him down? Who knows?
He's a bit like Wolverine, if he didn't get lucky breaks and second chances.
Plans this month? I won't have time to start a new comic project - I have commissions to get on with and work will kick in in a big way - so I need to work out what I'll want to draw down the line and do a cover for it. I fancy doing something Thunder-Forcey now that I've had three months of Vigil though.

And I still have one more page of the June challenge to go - to show Vigil's chat with Sigma!

HAH, so this is the direction you took with it? I love it, and the blase look on Vigil's face is perfect.

I figured - How can I make Threadjacker hate Vigil even more? This was the answer! Nice to do a fun story after all the grim stuff in June - but I had to rush - not my best work. Still - really enjoyed drawing TJ Thanks for the kind words and the
- much appreciated!
