I decided to do an art prompt because I have not drawn periwigs for a year and a half. Of course, I ran into trouble because Leibniz does not have the luxury of being recognizable to the average person meaning that I can't just do the anime-thing (if I did that he'd look like Spinoza with Huygens's hair) plus 90% of his images are from when he was over the age of 40 and not exactly...slim. Statues make this a bit easier but as far as referencing is concerned there are a few things I had to be wary of:

* Lithographs (they were made by drawing on top of the painted image and then reproducing a reversed image...yes I know),

* Pen and ink drawings (these were typically zoomed out and...let's be honest here in a drawing of a court all male courtiers looks like him XD)

* Statues (these gave me more of a 3D view of his character...however some of them were made in that style of carving where the figure is given "idealized" proportions --- in the face you perverts)

The only good news with Anime-style drawings, is that the figure's personality/concept is more important than a 1:1 likeness. My goal was basically answering this question: "What would it look like if Leibniz was placed in the foreground or background of this Newton?"

It took a while, so I turned my notes into an image as well (no need to do all that work for nothing!)
