This is pretty funny an cute. So when the Crest of Hope is activated, Takeru becomes all dark and corrupt? (Haven't really watched season 2)

I find this very funny and adorable at the same time. Love the last panel!! (instant moe Takeru ftw 
But I do have to agree with Uzukun. The matter of the fact is that once the power of Darkness or a Dark Element is present in his sight, Takeru turns into a different and violent person. He has some sort of bi-polar personality which is not that clear to many people, because seeing him in the opposite behavior is very unusual and rare.

I think the main objective is not "to activate the Crest of Hope", but "to make Takeru berserk to Dark Takeru" instead. And Kouichi is such a smart one since he has darkness as his element. Meanwhile, Kouji is such a moral compass for his twin brother.

Hope'd only activate when he is despair (aka turn into Dark Takeru) So I believe they are the same thing

I think in canon material, Takeru's trait, Hope, is not the same with his Adventure version. You know, the death of Patamon left such severe trauma in his heart. He is basically still a happy-go-lucky boy, but when dark power emerges, he becomes cynical and vengeful.
Somehow I imagine if there is a such Digimon crossover, he and Kouichi will have such deadly fight before Kouji interrupts.
