The way he designed that two holes in these stars, makes a good optical illusion.

The hole "drill" are in diferent angles, and with a diferent color (as you said), on the pink star, the hole is designed like it was cutted from top right towards down left.

On the white start, the hole is "cutted" inversely comparing to the hole in the pink star. The choice of colors and the way the cuts were designed makes that little part look like an eye (that's why I said it's a good optical ilussion).
