I think you should have edited the stock on photoshop before using it here to maybe make it more suitable for the fractal, or maybe use a completely different stock (I think the background pic choice was a bit poor).
Its just that I dont feed that background fits the composition well. Not only because of the non-fitting colours or the fact that there seems to be no integration between the bg and the 3d model (Like really, it looks like you just put the fractal on top of the pic and thats it), but mostly because that "sharp edged" (I dont know if thats the right terminology) fractal doesnt go with that picture of wathever sort of galaxy thing that is.
If you want advice (even tho im SO much worse with md3d than you), you should really consider picking up photoshop or something. It could seriously help you so much to make your stuff look a shitload nicer. Wether if its by pre-editing a stock you are going to use as background, creating the background yourself, or by post-editing your .png result, it will just look better.
Merging backgrounds with pics correctly, adding the feel of proximity or remoteness (by using blurs for example), improving a pic's quality, those are some things that cant be optimally done with md3d ((as far as I know)), but can easily be handled by something like photoshop if used well.
Anyway, thanks for reading, thanks for the art.
