Very valid point and I se where you're coming from. I had it with a drop shadow but it 'jumped' out to much - I wanted it to sit back within the texture if you know what i mean?

yeah, i think i gotcha. i guess thats more of a taste thing on my part than anything else, lol
tho, if u wanted, maybe a thin outline on the text? if it didnt seperate it out from the texture in the background too much it might work.
either way, it looks good as is
