Description Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula)
The famous carnivorous plant, native to the temperate and subtropical wetlands of North and South Carolina, on the East Coast of the United States. The plant's common name refers to Venus, the Roman goddess of love. The genus name, Dionaea, refers to the Greek goddess Aphrodite, while the species name, muscipula, is Latin for both "mousetrap" and "flytrap". April is when, in my horticulture zone, that VFTs really begin to emerge from dormancy and start to mass produce traps and color up. Flower stalks are also rising high above to be safely pollinated by insects. Photographed in my garden.

Nature is the ultimate artist.
