Description
Sarracenia Purpurea ssp. Venosa (hybrid)This photograph was shot at an upward angle against a bright morning sky which gives it a surreal dimensionality.
Sarrs are carnivorous pitcher plants native to North American wetland bogs where they evolved to eat insects for the nutrients that are unavailable in the peat/moss bogs they grow in. The flowers bloom in early Spring as the plants emerge from their Winter dormancy and before carnivorous pitcher production so as not to eat their pollinators.
Nature is the ultimate artist.
