Body Type: A lean, stocky tom cat with a narrow jaw on a grey-nosed face with a black leathered, sloped nose and angular ears. This tom has an average-length blunt tail and long white whiskers. His eyes always seem to grin. His back is slightly arched from age.
Fur Type: short, thick, and coarse. his fur seems to always be shedding.
Fur Color: salt-and-pepper siamese buff with chocolate points, his pelt as aged with him - causing a dull roan with chocolate flecks. He has minor white coverage, a white jaw and a small locket - as well as a few stray hairs sometimes visible on the tips of his tail and toes.
Eye Color: Oddly, they still seem to be as blue as the day he was born. They are often not seen as he seems enthused by his work and as such, smiles.
Scars: none :^)

Negative
| Wise | Forward-Thinker | Hard Worker | Optimist | Urge to Act | Dark Humor | Codebreaker | Harrowed |
Positive Trait 1: Wise
In his old age, Goosetooth is level-headed and has been part of things most cats only hear of. He's a good person to consult when considering the future. This is tied to his Optimist trait.
Positive Trait 2: Forward-Thinker
The status quo is background noise to Goosetooth - he is not one to sit idle and accept the world as it is. This is tied to his Urge to Act and Optimist traits.
Positive Trait 3: Hard Worker
Above all else Goosetooth strives for work well done. He's a stern mentor and hard-nosed when it comes to treatment, but he is not unfair. He gained this trait from his father Branchsnap, and is tied to his Urge to Act trait.
Neutral Trait 1: Optimist
Forcing yourself to see the bright side of any situation isn't always appropriate - but sometimes its just what's needed. This is tied to his Dark Humor, Wise, and Forward-Thinker traits.
Neutral Trait 2: Urge To Act
Goosetooth will act as he pleases, even when its safer to stay put. Every choice is an opprotunity, and Goosetooth grabs it. This is tied to his Codebreaker, Harrowed, and Hard Worker traits.
Negative Trait 1: Dark Humor
The nestside manner of a medicine cat probably shouldn't include quips about their mortality and injuries. This was gained through Gorsestar's stress upon Ravenclan, and it is tied deeply to his Optimist trait.
Negative Trait 2: Codebreaker
In his life Goosetooth has broken the leader code, his fate in the afterlife isn't guaranteed. This is deeply tied to his Urge to Act trait.
Negative Trait 3: Harrowed
Grief-stricken at a young age and under his time with Gorsestar, Goosetooth has been irreversibly changed. This has lead him to have several irrational dislikes, as well as an off-kilter personality. This is tied to his Codebreaker, Dark Humor, and Urge to Act.
Likes: Duck. Blood, Sputum, ect. Medicine. Polite warriors.
Dislikes: Deputies (Irrational - a learned trait)
Fears: Birth complications, kit death, famine

(If you have a major character-important medical incident in your character's backstory, let me know! I'll see if I can add it in.)
Kithood (0 - 5 Moons)
Goosekit was not an only kit, but more bodies exited the nursery the day of his birth than entered. His mother and littermates died together - the medicine cat at the time was Branchsnap, Goosekit's own father, and he took solemn responsibility for the deaths fully on himself. Branchsnap named the only kit Goosekit as he'd seen a goose corpse earlier that day, and the way the kit was sprawled reminded him of it. Even for a newborn Goosekit was born extremely unwell, but like a gift from Starclan the kit lived - and into his siamese points that made him look like his namesake.
There was a great deal of controversy as Branchsnap became his milkmother, the plan initially for the tom was to continue his duty as Stumpnose birthed their kits - but Starclan deemed her life complete. Even if Branchsnap saved Goosekit's life, even he could not contain the fury within that little kit. He was grumpy, angry, and always discontented. While the clan knew that this was how a child grieved, his nursurymates resented him for his bullying, dark thoughts, and bursts of negativity.
As he reached apprentice age, he learned how to control his impulses and finally accept the death of his mother. In this way he embraced starclan, though he always wondered what she did to deserve death - it had to have been for a reason. This acceptance turned into a lifelong theme of self-control for Goosekit, but he would never know what else of his kithood would come to haunt him.
Apprenticeship (6 - approx. 12 Moons)
Goosepaw begins his apprenticeship with great fervor, though the clan reawakens its distain and has severe reservations about a Medicine Cat taking in his own kit. Heatherstar condones it, citing that Branchsnap has the best intuition for this, but Goosepaw is heckled. Amidst the controversy, Branchsnap has Goosepaw vow that he no longer a father to him as long as he is Medicine Cat. Its a vow Goosepaw takes, and its a vow Goosepaw stands vigil for - as if Branchsnap had died. The promise was simple, but Goosepaw had fears as Branchsnap wasn't exactly young.
Branchsnap keeps him from serious tasks for moons - valuing a strong foundation in herbology. By the time his nurserymates were warriors he hadn't tended to a single wound. Goosepaw wasn't about to argue, but wanted to know why Branchsnap hadn't assigned him to any sick cats - after all, that would be his job. Branchsnap had to explain. He told him that wounds are simple: You put cobwebs on wounds, you put poultice on infections, you eat herbs to recover. He could teach that every sunrise for the next thirteen moons and it would not make him a better Medicine Cat. Administering medicine was not what Medicine Cats trained for, any fool with sharp teeth could do it. Until Goosepaw could diagnose a warrior before he did, identify every herb without seeing them, tell him exactly where the nearest herb patches were - he would not move onto administering medicine.
So Goosepaw trained. He walked through the woods with his eyes closed, letting whiskers and nose lead him under branches and over logs until he could bury his nose in every herb from burdock to yarrow. Goosepaw watched the clan from the medicine cat's den, watching the gaits and breath of the warriors as they milled about camp until he could watch a warrior bathe in the sun and see the onset of greencough. After a particularly rough battle, Goosepaw found himself barking the same herb locations as Branchsnap at warrior assistants.
Warriorhood (12 Moons - Current)
Goosepaw now into the prime of his warrior years, Branchsnap shed a tear. The bar he placed was so high, but Goosepaw had hurdled it. It was the pride of a man who, despite greeting death, was full of love. Branchsnap welcomed him to the nestside where a warrior lay injured, Goosepaw identified the broken legbone, and Branchsnap talked him through the poultice and splint. Just like that the two worked together, with both cats working the mortality rate of the clan plummeted and each passing cat gave their thanks. Goosepaw was soon named Goosetooth, for his quick wit, sharp mind, and decisive ways. -Tooth was a suffix most known to be given to warriors, but Branchsnap was certain the Goosepaw had proven to as noble and skilled as any warrior in camp.
......Then, Gorsestar became leader.....
Gorsestar was a beast of change, and change he brought. When the leader restricted prey from elders and kits, the medicine cats began to work doubletime. Mothers and fathers entered their den to scream at them, elders hissed and swatted as the pains of hunger drove them to do something - anything - that would expel the energy their feeble bodies could not expend. Every day felt as long as a moon, sleep was sparse and unrestful, but Goosetooth held onto his pleasant disposition. Branchsnap taught him another trick of the trade, to always be optimistic. A doubtful medicine cat was an untrustworthy one. To be gleeful to help is the best medicine of all. Goosepaw was able to sleep well that night, comforted by the thought.
However, Starclan has its plans. The worst was yet to come for Goosepaw, as queens and kits began to die. He stared horrified at the small, breathless body of a kit and the exhausted frame of queen who died of a heart attack mid-birth due to stress. How could Goosepaw see an upside of this? Was there anything more terrible than being unable to stop the growth of the kits in your belly, to be forced to bring them into a world where they would immediately suffer? The apprentice swallowed dryly, as he pressed his nose to the kit's bloody flank he whispered with all the optimism he could muster: they're a beautiful kit, even in death.
It was not the last he saw such terrible things, the incidents may have been connected as not long after Lionpelt and Softshadow suffered the same terrible loss that Branchsnap did. While every kit that passed by Lionpelt was born just as still as Stumpnose's, the medicine cats prayed so deeply and earnestly to Starclan - so desperate for Lionpelt to survive that they were convinced the she-cat had an intervention. After that night, Goosetooth found his eyes lingering on Lionpelt... especially when she became pregnant for the second time.
As Gorsestar eyed the concept of war, the Medicine Cats grew stressed. One moon - almost at random - Branchsnap was deemed too old to be a sharp-minded medicine cat, Gorsestar sending him to the elder's den. This erupted controversy as this was clearly untrue, but it wasn't enough to change the leader's mind. Goosetooth would sneak bundles of sorrel to the starving cats against orders, after all - Branchsnap was his father once more. The prey returned briefly, Lionpelt gave birth again, and by no small feat on Goosetooth's part they all emerged alive. The medicine cat left the den burdened by the ghost of his mother, lifted by the thrall of victory, and unaware of how important that little black kit would become to him.
Moons passed swiftly and the injured began to fill every nest in Goosetooth's den, and he stuck by every trick, rule, and law Branchsnap gave. More yelling, more screaming, more grief surrounded Goosetooth as he struggled to keep up with the flow of injured warriors and starving cats. He needed an apprentice, but a trial by fire would do no good for the future medicine cat. By observation he knew what kind of cat the clan would need, and between patience he deliberated who he would train.
A reserved cat, one who wouldn't speak out of turn of Gorsestar and endanger the clan. A cat who had seen medicine in all the ways it affects clan life. A cat without messy ties to others, who could focus on their studies and handle the workload that came with being a Medicine Cat. It was when Goosetooth sat at the mouth of the Medicine Cat den, watching, as Lionpelt and Softshadow argued, that he made his choice. It was hard not to live to his namesake and sink his unnoticed teeth into the two ungrateful parents, but seeing Pinekit's tufted tail scurry away from the arguing mates steeled his resolve. That kit was his apprentice.
When he took Pinepaw in, he aimed to do so with the clan in mind. There was still a beating heart within him, however - brought Pinekit to the medicine cat den with one selfish goal - to shelter them. He trained Pinepaw as his father did, hoping that with alongside their newfound duty the estranged kit could find family in him as well. No cat deserved the life Lionpelt and Softshadow offered, Goosetooth could not unsay his prayers but never again did the Medicine Cat call to the stars to help them. To betray family was the highest crime to Goosetooth.
The medicine den was always alight with drama and disgruntled cats, and as such Goosetooth could not bear to put such a young cat to that environment. Goosetooth had Pinepaw study herbs as he once did, and when the apprentice was approached by a disgruntled warrior Goosetooth was quick to take the fall for them. When the den was inhospitable, he would send Pinepaw to learn from Branchsnap from the elder's den - taking the apprentice's duty on himself. Gorsestar banned the usage of herbs, and Goosetooth took a turn for the worse.
The world was heavy. Goosetooth had seen more suffering than any cat had any right to see, the pain of his clan was heavy on his shoulders, it was so incredibly personal yet despite his position he was powerless to stop Gorsestar from causing more and more unnecessary strife. There was only so far a cat could bend. Every time he saw wounds he would force himself to be optimistic, in his den empty of herbs and full of bodies. Just as the wayward scent of herbs filled him with enthusiasm, without that he began to force himself to see his patients as a good thing and the sight of wounds electrified him with excitement. His loud greetings saw less names and more disgusted looks as he greeted cats as their latest injury. Brokenleg! was the patrol not all what it was cracked up to be?, he would say. Slitgut! You look rather empty inside today! This change in personality would stay with him irrevocably, a harrowed scar upon his psyche.
Goosetooth knew he was delving into madness, his age didn't help at all - but the weight of his clan, of his apprentice, of his father, of every glare and hiss from a clanmate while stars above and abyss below he was trying - it all bent his personality out of shape. He took Pinepaw's training as the passing of a birthright, as his life's goal, he tried to beat back his own demons for the sake of the apprentice. On his worse days, Branchsnap would offer to train him instead. Despite the great stress of his life, Goosetooth seemed to calm himself when trying to train Pinepaw, explaining the usefulness of knowing herbs - despite being barred to use them - put him to peace. He could still be a medicine cat like this. It took a great deal of effort to be a mentor in these trying times, but Goosetooth saw Pinepaw as the most important thing to him. His mother, Stumpnose, saved Pinepaw's mother from joining Starclan. His father, Branchsnap, saved Lionpelt's second litter through diligence alone, and Goosetooth would pass on his skills to them - a worthy heir. It was as if it were written in the stars, Pinepaw would be Ravenclan's greatest medicine cat.
Pinepaw had their own plans.
It seemed overnight that the camp suddenly became quiet. His den was no longer filled with angry cats. His clan was no longer full; it had split. They called themselves Snakeclan, and with them ran Pinepaw. To say that Goosetooth was distraught was and is an understatement, he tore all around the camp looking for his apprentice - he threw claws at those who tried to calm him. Pinepaw had stolen away looking for herbs to treat the greencough outbreak, he thought. Pinepaw was out figuring where the closest herb patches were. He held hope. After all, he was an optimist. But Pinepaw did not come back. Goosetooth thought he was dead, the truth of the matter wasn't much better.
Soon enough, Goosetooth thought, Snakeclan would be rebuked by Starclan for refusing Gorsestar and would be sent scurrying back. Make no mistake, no cat hated Gorsestar more than Goosetooth, but the code was the code and it was not to be broken without divine punishment. Though his heart bled in a Pinepaw-shaped wound, Goosetooth would forever be bitter. The little black cat had sunk their teeth into his heart and had the gall to take it with them when they left, Pinepaw saw a clan in need and turned heel and ran instead of doing what they could for their clanmates. He was angry that Pinepaw ever saw it as an option.
Then, Starclan accepted Snakeclan. Goosetooth held vigil in his den over a bough of pine. He needed closure - closure that a brief medicine cat meeting would never bring. If Pinepaw was a full-fledged medicine cat now, he would need to swallow that pain and pledge himself to supporting him - thus Goosetooth mourned the loss of his apprentice as a death. It was simply too big a time, almost 25 moons of his life ripped away under the light of the moon. He was an old cat, each moon was becoming an increasingly shorter time... would he have it in him to take another apprentice? He could only hope Starclan would be as kind.
It would not be too long until the next medicine cat meeting would arrive, a half-moon. Goosetooth walked alone, a normalcy he never wished to have. He set his jaw, anticipating a fight. Why? No matter how Goosetooth tried, he could not rationalize Pinepaw's point of view. It burned in his gut. It always would, when the back of his brain expected that tufted tail to flick in the corner of his eye he would be reminded of the distance and borders between them. However, when he came upon the halfmoon meeting he was suprised. Now, its hard to suprise an old cat, but the medicine cat talking to his former apprentice still referred them to Pinepaw. Pinepaw approached, and told Goosetooth what happened when Snakeclan became recognized. The oldest Starclan medicine cats offered to name them, but they refused - they would only take a name from his mentor. Goosetooth had so much to say.
"Pinepaw, your name has been on the tip of my tongue for moons - but I realize how wrong I was about you. You are not a cat for Ravenclan to remember."
Goosetooth paused, the space the cats rife with dangerous air, the heaviness of his words only deepened by the crease of his brow. The other medicine cats looked to one another as if afraid Goosetooth would strike, moving to protect the Snakeclan cat... but the tom lowered his head into a deep bow and spoke again.
"Pinepaw... I was wrong because you are a cat every clan in this valley will remember. You are a part of the grandest history, elders will be telling the tale of you for moons after my bones return to the earth. For you to shirk Starclan, to seek me instead... I... I cannot imagine a higher honor. "
It was with his heart in his throat that he named Pinepaw. He was too strong a cat, too old, too prideful to cry - yet his did regardless. He named him Pinetail, for the trail they would leave behind them and the tales cats would be telling for moons. And, of course, for that tufted tail that would always be walking away from him. Although Goosetooth was hurt, he vowed when he became medicine cat to be impartial to clan strife. Even if Pinetail had hurt him so, such a request did so much to help keep those grudges from surfacing. Goosetooth returned to Ravenclan after the meeting, the walk didn't grow any less cold and silent.
The clan was smaller, but that just made disease spread that much faster. Even though it was diagnosed early in a few sporatic warriors, greencough is a tenacious disease - especially without herbs. Goosetooth saw an apprentice in his den more and more, a cat named -----paw. Whether through scrapes, illness, or visiting loved ones - the cat had a penchant of being around. Probably to his mentor's chagrin, but Goosetooth wasn't spry enough to track down the cat and give him a peice of his mind.
It was Sootstep, the new deputy, that approached Goosetooth. He was named only a few moons prior, chiefly due to being in good health. Goosetooth was familiar with controversial promotions, and thus did not hold it against the black-furred tom. Sootstep took him into deep, deep into Ravenclan territory alongside a warrior named Nettlespots to discuss a nefarious plan. They had solemnly asked Goosetooth for herbs to poison Gorsestar, expecting Goosetooth to not want a hand in the leader's death - but Goosetooth wholeheartedly agreed, suggesting a different mode of death. Poisons are nowhere near as discreet a death as most cats thought - a cat dead from poison is as glaring as a cat hit by a monster, that is why Goosetooth detailed a new plan. They were to have a cat with Greencough cough, bite, and spit onto his prey. A sprig of catmint (or even bile, really, he cared not for Gorsestar) would wash away any issues the leader would have with eating it. Perhaps it was startling to Nettlespots and Sootstep, or perhaps it wasnt, but Goosetooth was not a cat to care. He was a cat deeply scorned. No problem in his life came from any other cat than Gorsestar, and he would relish in his demise. His only regret was not being a warrior, so he could tear into him and taste his blood.
Greencough is a tenatious disease. Gorsestar would learn this well.
It wasn't long until Gorsestar was infected, and soon bed-ridden in his den. The leader demanded to see Goosetooth. When the medicine cat entered, he saw the leader laying on his side upon his nest. His breath came in rheumy gurgles, the leader's fur spiked with sweat and his eyes bleary. A green phlegm drooled from his nose and mouth as he gave a weak cough. Goosetooth gave him a look over. Prodding his stomach, rolling him over, putting an ear to his chest... The medicine cat circled him slowly, once, twice, three times.
"Hm." Goosetooth said, looking back on his long life without any recollection of a green-phlegmed cough. "I'm afraid I haven't a clue what this is."
And just like that, Goosetooth did what Gorsestar always wanted from him - and left the weak to fend for themselves. As Goosetooth left, the haggared leader cried out after him, but the sun was bright and the birds were singing - it was no day to spend cooped up in some den. It wasn't long until Gorsestar lost a life to Greencough. Goosetooth spent little time infecting his prey once again, instilling the disease. After he had tended to all the warriors, elders, and queens despite Gorsestar's orders, he took a walk back to his den to grab some supplies. On his way back he happened to walk a little too close to Gorsestar's den, where the leader - weak from disease - demanded to be treated.
Who was Goosetooth to refuse? He entered the den and handed him the bundle of herbs, Gorsestar devouring them. Goosetooth watched with those grinning eyes as convulsions took him, watching as veins crawled over the horrified whites of Gorsestar's eyes. The coughing, the gurling, the vomiting - and then nothing. Gorsestar had died of a mysterious disease - one Goosetooth himself could not diagnose, one that didn't quite fit the bill for anything. It was a strange disease, Goosetooth would mention, he would warn that all types of foxhearted cats are at risk of developing it. Not that he would know, of course. He just had his suspicions.
[Bio finished until I know who Goose's apprentice will be!! I will add the apprentices birth and other appropriate details from their bio]
- R E L A T I O N S H I P S -
Orientation: Gynephilic, but pan.
Availability: Available, not seeking - mainly because most people think he's a lunatic, and he's not going to waste his breath convincing people otherwise.
Ideal Relationship and Traits: Someone steady, someone strong, someone who can speak their mind. Goosetooth can be quite shallow, he prefers cats who are not often sick and who have had nobody in their immediate family has die while kitting. He could love anybody, but his Harrowed trait makes him choosey.

Bearpaw | frickinkey | Ravenclan Medicine Cat Apprentice | - Relationship Description
Sootstar | pvzzle | Snakeclan Leader | - Perhaps not the most worthy cat to succeed the clan, but Goosetooth would defend him with his very life nonetheless. Whatever the circumstance of his promotion, it is the heart of the cat that makes the leader - and by that measure he is head and tail above Gorsestar. In a way Goosetooth feels indebted; any grievances he has with Sootstar he also has with himself. Feelings of anger, mostly, that he could've acted sooner and avoided more deaths. Perhaps he was so stuck in his own personal issues that he didn't see the suffering around him? Goosetooth keeps these opinions to himself, knowing now that Sootstar keeps his eyes open to his clan now.
Branchsnap | NPC | Ravenclan Elder | - Currently, Goosetooth is glad for Branchsnap to be an elder as he can see him as a father again, but has been consistantly terrified for his wellbeing for the majority of his life. With Gorsestar starving elders, Goosetooth often went without food himself to feed his father. Nobody understands Goosetooth better than Branchsnap, though lately he's been anticipating Branchsnap's death due to old age. Its heartbreaking to think about, but Goosetooth must prepare himself for the day it happens. At least now Goosetooth can rest easy knowing Branchsnap can eat properly. He hopes death will come for both of them in the same night - living without Branchsnap would be terrible.
SnakeClan
Pinetail | KiraKats | Snakeclan Medicine Cat | - Former apprentice. Goosetooth respects him, perhaps more than other medicine cats as he taught them himself - however this is mostly out of ego and obligation. He is pleasant towards them and will collaborate due to the Medicine Cat Truce, but he took Pinetail's defecting very personally.
To Goosetooth, his medical ability is tied directly with the death of his mother. He knows his father was prompted by grief, to practice medicine well is to honor both his parents. For Pinetail to take his teachings and run is to steal away with part of his own very soul - a grievous insult. To Goosetooth he abandoned people living in a hellish situation who desperately needed a caring hand, Pinetail had the means to ease the suffering and instead they saved their own skin. A Medicine Cat has to be just as strong, enduring, and loyal as a warrior. In a way, Goosetooth is furious that Pinetail ever saw abandoning patients as an option in the first place.
If Pinetail hadn't become a medicine cat in Snakeclan, Goosetooth would act in a much different way - but as is, he is amicable and collaborative. Goosetooth harbors a lot of negative feelings in his heart, but he is a brain-over-heart cat and will act upon duty instead of emotion. On some topics of debate, he would likely even defend Pinetail due to his life experiences. Just don't bring up the defecting. He may have never trained as a warrior, but that doesn't take his mother's sharp teeth and warrior blood from him.
