I think it depends on the individual person and their personality
for me, it just doesn't make sense that there's a god
and i find that it makes sense that the universe being created, animals evolving and all that jazz was just by luck
we are very lucky to be alive, but i don't think there was a god behind it
sorry, i can't really explain it well but, it makes sense to me that no god exists in the same way it makes sense to you that a god exists
and thanks for not throwing a hissy fit like some people would
(BTW awesome icon )

I don't tend to get hissy at people, I roar. sometimes. Thanks on the icon.
If you don't mind I would like to chat with you sometime about the whole atheism idea. Right now, I am a christian, but would like to look at some other view points other than Christianity.
Thanks again, and tell me if you know of a chatroom we can go to sometime that is somewhat private.

just saying thanks
some guy in my school used to try and convert me and my friend all the time. Saying things like we'd go to hell and stuff, so i'm kind of on the defensive at the moment.
We used to argue a lot about atheism.
Well, basically, it just feels right to be an athiest. I just don't think it's likely that someone created the whole world. I was brought up with the idea of god, but at the same time, my mum has buddhist leanings, so i've picked them off from her and believe in reincarnation (don't know if that still makes me an athiest?).
I know not all christians believe this, but since there's so much evidence around to suggest that the world is several billions of years old and all life evolved from a single celled organism. And all the rest of it. yeah, i like science. :3
i guess that probably also explains why i don't believe in god. Having all these explinations to everything that a long time ago, people won't have had explinations for, had just led me to the conclution that there isn't a god. I know most christians believe in science and god, but i guess that hepled.
I forgot the other thing i was going to say... sorry!

I can understand you being on the defensive. he may have been right (God forbid) or he may have been wrong. I dont know you that well and even if I did I could not judge the state of your soul since I am *not* God and cannot see inside you like he can.
With the evolution theory, it really doesnt matter which side you take on that issue, but personally I dont think it is possible. I can give more reasons later, but now is not the time.
As for all the evolution, yeah things could have just evolved from a single celled organism without the help of a creator. but this begs the question, 'Where did that single cell come from?' If evolution did happen (which i dont think happened) God had to at least start the proccess. matter cannot just randomly form itself from literally NO-THING.
also, the perfection that comes about in our world. food chains, weather, the fact that the Earth is at just the right angle tilt at just the right distance from the sun to sustain life, that had to have been directed by something.
lastly, anything has to have a first mover. For example, a pencil is sitting on a table. it will not just fall off the table without a mover. that could be a person pushing it, a breath of wind, a shift in gravity due to the table being moved.
say it was due to the table being moved. Well, what caused the table to be moved? an earthquake? a person? if it was per-say and earthquake, then what caused the earthquake... and the list goes on ad infinitum. my point is, everythinghas a first mover and a starting point. for me that point is God who himself is infinite. What is that starting point for you?
Thanks, and I'm glad we can talk about this (civilly).

well i hope he isn't right because i sure don't want to burn in hell for eternity
yeah, i think it's silly that just because you don't believe in the same thing as someone, that i should go to an underworld. They might have done far worse things than me. He's a very strange person...
for me, there is no first mover, it just happens and that's that. It all works in my head that is has just happened for example with earthquakes, convection currents under the earth moving the plates, the nuclear core of the earth heating the magma to make the currents, hehe, i could go on for a while, but i won't X3
so i like i said earlier, i think it just depends on the person. for me, no starter works okay and all fits ^^
Sorry that was such a short answer to yours, i feel a bit bad now... X3
no problem!

dont worry short answers are fine. To me though, I can keep going back further and further to infinity with this caused that which caused this which caused that.... and so on. You have to reach a beginning somewhere and for me that is God. You said that through earthquakes and the nuclear core making currents in the magma etc. what started the nuclear core burning, or what made the plates shift to cause earthquakes? as I said I believe that it is God.
I am going to leave off this thread for now. If you ever have more questions come ask me anything. Remember, though that every day I will be praying a rosary that you will come to know God and beleive in him. The rosary is [link] .
Thank you. I will be praying.

well i think that one thing doesn't take another. evolution and god can "coexist" together.
I believe that god exists, but i also believe in evolution, I just cant believe in that type of god that punishes, that gets angry and that gets disappointed when you do something wrong, i just cant take it. in school i feel that they are constantly trying to force things into my head and although i have been going to mass my whole life i just cant get it. specially now that i'm growing up.
I also believe in the big bang but i just don't understand how everything started, who or what made it, I just don't know.
I think I'm a bit more in the middle, between both believes.
sorry for my crappy english

sure I beleive that God and evolution can coexist together as well. I just dont beleive in the evolution part personally. It could have happened and that is fine, I personally just dont think it did.
Also if the big bang is what started the universe, then I would beleive that as well. I would also say though, that God caused the particles that hit to hit one another and that he was the one that created the particles that made the bang in the first place.

evolution is actually proved but i think it is a very difficult subject to treat because each person has a different point of view.
we will never know who or what actually created the universe.
I actually think every person should do is to choose what we actually like to believe in and stick thing that we like. and throughout life adapt and "join" information that, if we like it add it to our "own religion".
at least that is what i do.
do you believe in a specific religion or do you build your own?

Ryuufan8 In reply to juanfox94 [2010-04-05 04:22:41 +0000 UTC]
I have a specific religion. if it were a 'do it yourself' why would you do so? to find the truth? what then is truth? with build-your-own religion stuff, everyone would say that truth is something different. BUt truth is truth. is it not? people can deny that if they throw a rock into the air it will come back down and hit them on the noggin', but does that make it any less true, or less effective, or less real? So, truth is either 'a' or 'b' or whatever. It is just as real as gravity and can only be one full uncontradictory theory.

juanfox94 In reply to Ryuufan8 [2010-04-10 14:43:06 +0000 UTC]
well i think truth its not a thing like black and white. i actually like to thing in terms of "points of view".
A person of a different religion than yours may believe in something totally different than you and still believe that he is right and that you're wrong. that person "knows" that he has he truth and that you are wrong but at the same time you think the complete opposite.
So maybe none of you has the truth but just a different point of view.
basically you will never know if you're actually right or wrong but you will follow what YOU believe is right. well, that i what i do.
after all we are not that different in terms of finding the truth, we just have a different point of view
sorry for my english again

Please clear this up for me, but how can you rationalize not believing in a god of some kind?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
totally-not-crazylol In reply to Ryuufan8 [2010-03-30 07:02:30 +0000 UTC]
Personally, i believe there's no solid evidence of the existence of any kind of god. I believe people just invented gods as a way of keeping order among people. Here you have a god, which comes with punishment for the evil (with Christianity its hell) and a reward for the good (same is heaven). This way, people think if they kill and abuse and in general are nasty people, they'll go to hell. But if they obey the law and are 'good' people, they'll go to heaven for eternity. its just a clever way to scare people into doing the right thing.
also, i believe humans are naturally greedy, vain things who believe they are superior to everyone and everything else. they don't understand something but instead of saying "i dont know" the say "its god. god did it. its a sign from god" because they dont want to sound dumb. you're never taught what people dont know, only taught what we do. there are some things we don't have answers for, but we just don't like to admit it.
and this is just the tipp of the iceberg when it comes to my reasons.
this is my opinion. i dont mean to say everyone else is wrong. i could have got it wrong. i dont know. but for now this is what i believe.
i don't tend to talk much about why i am atheist in case it offends people.
also, you have an epic icon

Ryuufan8 In reply to totally-not-crazylol [2010-03-31 13:11:39 +0000 UTC]
you say that there is no solid evidence of the existence of god. what is your definition of evidence, if I may be so bold to ask?
humans can be greedy and vain, but that is due to the temptation of the devil. Humans have a conscience and that tells them basically what is morally good or bad. For example most people in a secluded place a long time ago (such as the native americans) would often view unneccesary killing as a bad thing. this was true, and that would be their conscience kicking in. given, there were murderers back then, but hey, there are still murderers like that today.
also, if people say '"its god. god did it. its a sign from god"' or somwthing of that sort so that they do not 'sound dumb' you are right, they probably dont know what the answer is. BUT, the answer is there, whether they dont know it or not. If you ask a 3-year old what the pythagorean theorem is, they will most likely have no idea. but just because they dont know, does that mean that it does not exist or that it is not true?
dont worry about offending me. It takes alot to offend me, and someone talking about their beliefs will not do it.
thanks on the Icon

ok. here we go. these reasons will not be in order of first to last or most to least important, I will just post them as they come to me.
for starters, I beleive that there is a God (obviously) part of that is the fact that all the things in existence are impossible to have just *poofed* into place. the complications of them and the detail is stunning when you look at it. I can go into detail about this later when I can get all the numbers and other info correctly written. also, the theory of there being a 'first mover' is another theory that I hold. everything has a first mover. For example, a pencil is sitting on a table. it will not just fall off the table without a mover. that could be a person pushing it, a breath of wind, a shift in gravity due to the table being moved. Say it was due to the table being moved. Well, what caused the table to be moved? an earthquake? a person? if it was per-say an earthquake, then what caused the earthquake?...etc. and the list goes on ad infinitum. my point is, anything and everything has a first mover and a starting point. for me that point is God who himself is infinite. he is the beginning and the end of all things. he created all and started all things in motion.
If you ever have any quiestions on anything I bring up or Questions on christianity in general, please ask me, and I will give you an answer.

totally-not-crazylol In reply to Ryuufan8 [2010-04-12 10:00:15 +0000 UTC]
Okay.
My response to this is that, firstly, I agree that there has to be some kind of force exerted on any physical object for it to move. And, at risk of sounding stuck-up, an earthquake is caused by a collision in the tectonic plates, which are constantly moving anyway, as technically I guess you could even say they're floating, on the sphere of magma which makes up the earth's core. And the layers of rock that make up the earth are constantly melting and reforming the closer you get to the centre.
My response on the beginning of the universe issue, is that I believe we do not know what happened. We may never know what happened. Our technology isn't advanced enough to gather sufficient information to create an accurate theory of what happened. Personally, it's not like knowing will change my life in any major way so I just accept there are some things we cannot yet explain. I also find it odd that people need to know everything. I think the entirety of humankind has a serious inferiority complex.

First off, VERY VERY SORRY that it has taken so long to get back to you on this.
You are right earthquakes are caused by a shift in the tectonic plates. but where did the tectonic plates come from and what makes them move? as I said the list goes on ad infinitum until you reach the beginning and 'first mover'.
you are correct, we do not know exactly what happened from a scientific standpoint, and we may never know. How exactly the world came into being will not neccesarily change your life. i.e. it could have come around through the 'big boom' theory, or anything else that has been proposed, but the fact still remains that it had t have been originally caused by something. again, the 'first mover' has come into play.
personally I dont feel like I have to know everything, and what I cannot understand in a cosmic sense I beleive through faith.

It's fine, I haven't been on in a while anyway
Well, yes, but I still believe in what I said in my previous message about not having to know everything. ("In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded." - Terry Pratchett. Yeah, I like this )
On another note though, I find our thought process fascinating. How can we think like we do by electric impulses in the brain? How exactly does diamond and hardware store memory? There are so many things we don't know.
I have many contradictory views on things. I argue against religion, and yet on one hand, I'm glad people like you have faith in this god of yours.
