Well, I do agree that democracy is the gateway to other, less people friendly governments. But normally it is the people who choose to change to these other governments. The Nazis rose to power with support of the people, as so is Hezbala (sorry for the misspelling) in the middleeast. As for the growing paramilitary force, that can be explained in 2 ways (perhaps and combination of each). 1. Because young people in a 1st world nation no longer wish to join the military for various reasons (Better oportunities, the negative image of a soldier brought on by global media, etc.) the total manpower has dropped to its lowest point in history. Now, with an operation against terrorist groups around the world that manpower is stretched to the limit. 2. Many 3rd world nations do not have properly equiped military and/or police. So, increasingly, these nations now hire out private militaries (mercenaries) to help them mantain order when they cannot and other nations (inculding the UN) do nothing to assist them (ex. Kosovo, Sudan).
As for the military being under the command of one person, it has ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS. If every important desicion had to be discused before being done, nothing would happen. Plus, I hate when people demonize the military and the police, they call them '
As for the people 'rising up to take back the governmet', the best way is to vote for who you honestly beileve will do the best for US, not for their contributors. Another thing that should be done is to create a new 3rd party. One that is moderate, that bridges the beliefs of the 'Liberals' and 'Conservatives'. In America you CAN have your cake and eat is too. This nation was built on the concept that through comprimise we can acheive anything.
By the way, Democracy is always on the rise.
The nation has fallen out of balance because of many reasons. We need to unify as One nation again. Strenghthen the Military, Boost the economy and quit playing the 2 political sides against one another. Together we can be that shining beaken of hope and freedom we used to be in the world!
(Sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of the politics of today. If what I said dosen't make sense I am a little sleepy. Plus, if you want to hide this, I'll understand. Oh, and funny joke at the end. this comic actually reminds me more of news outlets that keep using 'hot' news anchors and pretend that they didn't notice it when they hired them, lol.)

The military that you want to grow so badly is under the rule of ONE person, not the people.
With the laws we have already passed due to ignorance, and the lack of power that the congress has, the President can declare martial law anytime he wants. He can also send any state's national guard against civilians, against the will of any governor of any state or anyone else, and not have to tell congress until after he's done it.
It's not about getting a bigger military, or unifying political parties, or even voting.
Democracy isn't on the rise. We're not even a democracy anymore. We're a republic.
So getting a bigger military would just help empower the civilians. I wish there was a way to up the economy, but with our federal banking system, it's literally impossible to get out of the debt we're in.

The sad thing is that people are only now realizing that this is how it has always been done in this country. A true democracy dose not work. That is why we have a representative government.
As for the economy, too many things that should have been taken care of decades ago are getting in the way. That inculdes the trouble with Al'quada, "Global Warming", Iraqi and the Oil Crisis. Its our own fault that we are in the mess we are in now. And Playing the 'blame game' never gets you anywhere (I'm not saying you specifically, just people in general).
You know, The real reason I made that comment was because I don't like when 'civilians' make people in uniform appear to be nothing more then Thugs. My Father, Uncle and Grandfather sure as hell are not Thugs! And as long as people exist there will be fighting, and I think we should always be prepared.
I think that civilians take freedom for granted.

1. if you've got huge boobs and happen to be very smart, talk by the phone if you want to want to be listed, to make'em see now intelligent you are, and your bewbs are not the ones talking.
