actually, she does x] The american government is, in a way, full of cultural "racists". They're afraid of any culture and government type that's not like their own. And even though they know that many western Europeic countries has a safer, more peaceful more open and better democratic system, they won't change anything, 'cus they're too proud of their old, American system. They're too patriotic.
They keep going to war against and criticize people who rule different, acting as if they know what's best for the world.
The economic system in America, where companies and corporations have INCREDIBLE power over people, really hurts the evolution of technology that would really help making the world a better place to live. They prioritize profits over life quality, health, and some times even lives.
In my opinion, America needs to change. Drastically. Before they crash this fuckin' plane

I think that it needs to touch the ground a little to realise what needs to be changed. :] In other words, America needs a reality check. A slap in the face. Though, maybe they've allready been slapped, and Obama is one of the persons who've decided to change stuff. :] Let's hope that's the case.

I disagree, America is rapidly becoming a Socialist country which is why the corporations have so much power. If we as a country halt the corporate control of our country then we will have less of all this crap happening now. Why do you think it is illegal to have Monopolies, it's to protect the Governments from take over by extremely powerful people, unfortunately for us They just banned together to make a 'Hydra of Power'. I also say that what your explaining is Communism and isn't at all a Cool Idea.

AndreasServan In reply to EzekielWinter [2008-03-08 23:52:00 +0000 UTC]
I hope you understand that I'm not anti-corporation or pro-communism. I'd like to see a system in america like they have in, say, scandinavia. In norway, schools, hospitals and stuff like that is owned by the government, and huge parts of the oil industry etc.
But we also have strong corporations. We have a mix of corporations owned by private persons and the government, so we have a balance that gives neither of them too much control. And it works as a charm! We're a very rich country, and the people here are free, safe and healthy. Our only worry is that other countries are trying to take that away from us. Don't get me wrong, we use incredible amounts of money on charity etc., but our people's naivitivity is opening up for criminality and drug industry. Our police barely have any weapons!
Just look at this:

I understand but there is always a way for the corrupt to take control. Peace and equality has to be taken care of by small groups of people working together otherwise everyone gets the same treatment instead of what they need for themselves. National scale always perverses the ideals of the good intention.

AndreasServan In reply to EzekielWinter [2008-03-09 08:34:58 +0000 UTC]
I don't see a way how our system can end in corruption, 'cus both the media and the people have a tradition of hunting down and take all power away from people who show even a glimpse of corruption or unmorality (sorry for my bad english ^^).
An example:
We had a leader, a woman, in an organisation called LO. It was the national organisation for workers and their rights. The leader bullied one of the workers in LO a little, which made the worker go to the press and tell them she quit her job because of it.
Not many days after, the leader, a person that had had a lot of power, respect and was an icon for very many people in our country, had to resign and was now hated or disliked by a lot of people.

EzekielWinter In reply to AndreasServan [2008-03-09 09:34:41 +0000 UTC]
Bad people always get into power since they are more ambitious than the majority. Even if a good person would get power they will lose it to someone who wants it more and Vise versa.

AndreasServan In reply to EzekielWinter [2008-03-09 16:28:12 +0000 UTC]
yeah, if the system allows it, then it will be like that. :]
In norway, there haven't been one single "bad guy" on the top since the nazi leader Hitler put in charge here when they occupied our country

There isn't as high a population there as Here, so there are more bad apples than Norway has, on top of that there has always been corrupt in America along with the Crappy way most Americans have been raised just produces more Rotten Fruit. Norway as I have read is Cleaner more open and has a better educated portion of citizens than here as well. The average I.Q. for America is around 90 and in Norway its about 110, That pretty much says it all for me. "The more you know the more you can apply." My point being that the Dumber you are the more you follow the Intelligent ones. Hitler was a Savior for his people back in the day, so for them He was a Good guy. Any country under the right circumstances will feel the same about anyone.

I guess... but you know, IQ is more of a way to measure the education level, not the intelligence level. IQ = intelligence+wisdom, not intelligence alone.
A brain is an empty canvas. What you learn is the paint, the value of the knowledge is the color, and your ability to learn is the quality of your brush and the hand that holds it. (To say it in devART-style ;D)
We're the same race, the same people. I think that because education is free, and maybe a little better in norway, we have more "intelligent" people. Every family can afford to send their kids to school, no one is left out.

I actually have to disagree with you. Communism, the original Marxist Communism, is about taking the work of the people and redistributing it evenly among the people so that everyone is treated equally. What's wrong with that? (I'm aware that unfortunately due to human greed Communism never actually works out as a government. Thus this is the kind of government we think of when we hear "Communism".) In this scenario corporations would not have power as the CEOs would get paid the same as the clerk at a 7-11. And monopolies? They exist. Take computers. Did you know Bill Gates secretly owns Apple? He uses it as a Microsoft R+D center. He has a monopoly on the computer software market and not many know it. Likewise, there are monopolies in virtually every field, but we don't hear about it because the owners of these megacorporations keep having everyone believe that they are separate companies, thus maneuvering around the anti-monopoly laws. Oh, and corporations have already taken over the country. It's called "bribe a politician into passing a bill/law that benefits you". As long as this happens, our needs don't matter...they don't pay as much.

Bill Gates owns Apple stock. He gets a portion of Apple's profit, and he has votes when it comes to company decisions. What do you think?

BellicoseBreakfast In reply to flyingkittie [2008-03-09 07:53:53 +0000 UTC]

You might've read it somewhere, but it must've been from an unreputable source. [link] <-- There you go. Fidelity owns 6% of Apple. Nobody owns more.

I believe you missed the part where I said that Companies have Created a Hydra which is a Greek Mythological Creature with multiple Heads but one body, so think about that. Also Marxist Communism is completely different than Global or Continental Communism and I did say we where a Socialist Country which in Definition is Companies controlling the Government. You just said it the longer and non metaphorical way, which isn't as Fun. Try understanding what I write instead of just reading it. :]
