I concur. I see it in my classes all the time here in Americaland. The token conservatives all argue that we have to "stay the course" and can't give up now. On anything. The token liberals are telling them to open their eyes because the country's getting shot to hell on the "stay the course" route.
I agree that it's completely sad that corporations (and religious institutions, for that matter) have such control over the political system here. People wonder why all progress has slowed or even stopped in some areas. It's because, through bills and laws being passed with increasingly religious, lucrative, and/or privacy-imposing connotations, this country is becoming the bastard lovechild of theocracy, kleptocracy, and totalitarianism - the government will steal from the people and use the goods for its own benefit, and be able to spy on/destroy political uprisings before they start by taking out dissenters (think Thought Police), and the mindless masses won't know/mind because "that's how 'God' intended things".
Believe me when I tell you, not many Americans actually fit the stereotype of being uninformed about how craptacular the current state of the country is/how blatantly hypocritical America's actions are. Unfortunately, it's the ones who think we should "stay the course" that are in power, and most Americans are resistant to change when it directly affects them in a way they can actually see/feel. Therein is the only real problem.

It's scary to hear stuff like that from an American, 'cus it kinda confirms that what we in Europe really fear is true, IS.
The people of America isn't stupid, and not all of them is uninformed or anything. But unlike many european countries, people are too scared to riot, or even say they disagree.
In norway we complain about everything! Even though we live happy, safe, healthy, wealthy and comfortable lives. Why? To make sure that the norwegian people is the ones in charge! Not a handful of people on the top! ^^
And to quote an American I heard ranting about America:

Exactly. Companies and the media sell fear to keep the people in a fear-laden insecure frenzy. Let's take, for example, the Canadian news versus American news. American news is laden with serial killers/rapists on the loose, supermodel-skinny "perfect" celebrities and whatever they're up to, suicide/obesity rates, jail sentences, and bomb threats. Canadian news is about local things. You know, peaceful things people would actually want to know about, like how the speed bumps installed around schools have improved safety, or a new restaurant opening up in town.
Canadians are known for being chill. Americans are known for being ignorant, crazy, and backstabbing. Is it really any wonder why these two countries have the reputations they do?
Moreover, is it any wonder why Americans have developed such a huge aversion to news media? I don't even watch the news anymore, because it repulses me so much.
