It's like a cycle: the future them saw someone running out of the time machine, and went in to check, and then ran out like crazy because they saw themselves from the past (which, to us, is present), who were like, "weird guys.." and went in to check. Yup.

They have to move backward in time (if they were moving forward, the future-ones would already know that time machine is a pain in ass)
They get in, move back 5 minutes, and while getting out they meet themselves... and get in, and move another 5 minutes... so, each time they're getting more and more back into time, and each next two of em are younger.
They're meeting infinite replication of themselves, but they're still only two beings.
