Description
Just a very random, simple and not that good tutorial of shadowing eyes.I made it in Paint Tool Sai.
1. Pick your palettes. I use these lilac and yellow to shadow/light everything, and I also use two extra colors for eyes only (not counting with the base color).
2. Draw your eye. I like perfect circles, so I just click multiples times at the same point with the pen to get my eye. Don't forget to shadow the sclera before, also. I usually use a light yellow and the lilac I use for everything, and then some white to remove the excess of shadow. I only shadow the eyelashes where there's hair over, so I didn't shadowed it for this tutorial.
3. Pick your first shadow. Don't just darker your base color for it, it'll look bland. I recommend getting some palettes on the internet for practice and then making your own when you understand more about color theory. As you can see, the color is going from blue to slight more purple as it darkens.
> Make your pupil with 25% of the size of the iris. If you don't know how much 25% of the size you used is, just multiply it by 25 and divide by 100. The iris size here is 80px, so the pupil is 20px.
> With the marker (I use it to shadow everything, with 100% opacity, 0% blending and 95% persistence), make a shadow in the top of the eye (in another layer) and blur it (with 100% at everything).
> Create another layer (to make it easier) and do a circle around the eye with the marker. Blur it. Now combine all the layers.
4. Pick your second shadow. Make a circle around the pupil, and blur it in the inside (not in the outside).
> In another layer (to make it easier), make a shadow in the top of the eye (slight smaller than the one you did before). Combine all the layers.
5. Now pick your lilac. Create another layer and set it to multiply (at 100% opacity) and, again with the marker, do a little shadow in the middle of the pupil and blur it. In the top of the eye, do another little shadow and also blur it. Combine the layers.
6. Now lets start with the lights. Make another layer and set it to luminosity (at 50% opacity) and, with your base color and marker, light it below the pupil, and also in the side of the closed part of the eyelashes (if your eyelashes are completely closed/open, I mean the side of the ears). Don't put much light in the open side. Combine the layers
7. Now the yellow. Create another layer, set it to luminosity (now at 100% opacity) and light the side of the open part of the eyelashes (if your eyelashes are completely closed/open, I mean the side of the nose). Blur it and combine the layers.
8. Now put some shine. I usually do it with a neon color first (like pink or red) to see where the light will be, and then color it white and set the layer to luminosity (at 15% of opacity). You can be creative with this part. Some of my OCs have stars or hearts, when I drew Grimory (My friend's OC), I drew his eyes with little skulls. Just to whatever you want.
