It is an interesting concept, and looks like it can be a nice final image.

I have a few problems with the design though, most notably that this look nothing like I'd imagine Hel. The black/white concept thing is very unclear in this picture, and to be frank I see very little in it that would lead the thought to the godess of an old norse afterlife I don't get why the chains are there, since that's not anything associated with Hel, nor with reapers, and they don't even seem to fulfill an actual purpose. I'd suggest dropping those. Also the arm-puffs look very... strange. I don't see why'd she dress her arms in a piece I associate with the medieval high class, when her skirt is completely tattered and torn. It looks very random. I also don't think that the skirt would actually stay up like that. Consider adding a rope or something to keep it in place.

I also looks like a very ineffective schythe that would get caught in whatever it was used on That's more my own personal preference for realism in weaponry, though.

Another issue is her skirt... or more accurately the way it falls. There's a piece of it that is covered by her leg, but that seem to be one with the piece that COVERS her leg. Not really sure how that works, but it needs a fix because it seem impossible. Also take a look at the length of her legs. Assumed that the hidden one have its knee placed at the same height as the visible one, she's bound to have reeeally long shins if she is to reach the ground, if the placemend of the scythe is anything to go on.. And, finally, there's something wrong with the way that her leg attach to her hip. It seem like it's placed too far into the middle, and should probably be moved further to the right somehow... look it up in an anatomy book. I'm not entirely certain what's off to be honest. But you need to polish the look of the pelvic bone.

Otherwise.. well, there's very little for me to critique at this stage of the painting
I'll look forward to the finished painting.

Wow, thank you for the in depth critique! It's extremely helpful.

I can see what you mean about her skirt, the way it falls and folds is very unnatural and too clean, it fails to show form. With the piece that covers her leg, it folds back but you can't read it very well since I need to work on the lighting more.

Thank you for pointing our her anatomy! I've looked at references that are similar to this pose and seen the way the weight of her body shifts upon the leg.

Although Hel is a placeholder name, I didn't design her in accordance to the norse goddess although it would be cool to do something along the lines of a half decayed death god. I'll be changing the name to something that suits it, I'm just terrible at thinking up names I'd actually drawn this up after watching Black Rock Shooter, inspired by it, hence why there are chains in there. I apologize for the misleading name!

I'll be balancing out the tattered/refined aspects of her costume to even it out a bit more.

Thank you for the awesome critique! I hope it shows that it helped with the final image.
