I'm personally quite fond of body modification- I plan on getting a tattoo of an octopus and possibly some piercings in my ear cartilage, but I totally understand why you wouldn't like things like that.

I'd get down on my knees and beg you not to do the tattoo. The other stuff you can fix by just letting the holes grow back.
Tattoos are one of the things that are basically forever--and you won't want them forever. No one ever does. Then if you want it off, you have to have them surgically removed--burned out with a laser. Which is both costly and painful.
So please think three times before you do it.
And don't forget that you can end up with blood borne diseases if the tattooist is not exceptionally careful. Ending up with AIDS, Malaria, or another BBD is just another reason not to do it.

I thought about a tattoo once... when I was staggering, nearly blind drunk, and about 20 years old. Fortunately, seeing all of the blood running down some guy's back as he was having an eagle tattooed there sobered me right up.
As for piercings, all of the guys in my crew in the Navy had earrings--a small gold dragon. I lost mine in a barroom fight one night and just let my ear grow back normally. LOL...
